School Meals and Summer EBT Application
Although meals are free for the 2023-2024 school year, we strongly encourage every family to fill out the School Meals and Summer EBT Application (also known as the Summer EBT and Education Benefits form). This could help your family with discounts on Pay to Play, testing fees, summer school fees, and for Summer EBT benefits. This also helps the school receive additional funding to support your child throughout the school year with before and after school enrichment, and additional resources for classrooms, teachers and students.
Applications for School Meals and Summer EBT are available online at https://fenton.familyportal.cloud/. This is the preferred method of filling them out, as they are sent directly to the director for processing. We will also have copies available at all of the open houses and school offices. Paper copies* may be turned in at the school office, or mailed to:

Lunch Accounts & Payment Options
Lunch Accounts
Fenton Area Public Schools uses the Meal Magic point of sale system in all of our cafeterias. For those of you unaware of this program, Meal Magic is a debit system that provides convenience and accountability to our meal program.
All students are given an “account” which is linked to their student ID number. You may deposit money into the account at any time. Deposits can me made through the food service office at your child’s school by cash or check, or online at https://fenton.familyportal.cloud/ with a check for a $1.00 fee, or credit card or debit card with a fee of $2.65 . This allows your student to pay for meals or snacks just by using his/her account. Also, Meal Magic gives you certain controls for monitoring your student’s spending and eating habits. You have the ability to check your student’s balance, account history and meal history through sendmoneytoschool.com. Meal Magic will warn cashiers if your child desires an item that potentially could interfere with your child’s allergies, provided this information has been given to the food service department.
With Meal Magic, all of the student’s accounts will look the same, thus protecting the anonymity of those students who participate in any special meal programs.
The Meal Magic system is a safer, and more convenient way to purchase school lunches. We look forward to serving your student in a much more efficient manner, and as always to meet their needs nutritionally through our student nutrition department.

Charging Policy
Fenton Schools Charging Policy
Fenton Area Public Schools serve nutritious breakfasts and lunches daily. Our menus are in compliance with the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program’s USDA federal nutrition guidelines. School meals must be paid for at the point-of-sale with cash or check, or preferably online at https://fenton.familyportal.cloud/ in advance so that they are debited from your student’s account. We encourage families to set up a https://fenton.familyportal.cloud/ account whether you plan to purchase school meals or not. You can put money on lunch accounts, view purchases and apply for free or reduced meals in the Family Portal. You can also transfer lunch money between your children, and set restrictions on accounts. Placing a few dollars on the account will help prevent a charge in the situation of a forgotten lunch.
In the rare event your child needs to charge a lunch, please see the policy below.
We will not deny a hungry student a lunch that meets the USDA meal pattern.
It is expected that the parent/guardian will take responsibility to ensure their student’s account balance is up to date.
A student’s account may not go negative for a la carte snack items.
A la carte items are cookies, chips, extra milk, extra entree etc. The only time an account may go negative for an a la carte item is if the child has an extra entree ( ex. slice of pizza) already on their tray in which the item can not be returned.
To help ensure your student’s account is in good standing:
You may sign up on the Family Portal for low balance reminders
Automated negative balance calls are sent out on Mondays and Thursdays at 5:55 pm.
At the elementary level, negative balances letters are sent home a minimum of twice a month
Once a student’s negative balance reaches $15.00 the Food Service Director and the Principal will begin trying to contact the parent/guardian to remind them that a payment needs to be made on the account.
We expect all negative balances to be paid in full by June 30th of each school year. Negative balances will carry over to the next school year and follow your child from building to building ( as does a positive balance). In order to graduate, all cafeteria negative balances must be paid in full.
Upon graduation, any remaining funds will first be transferred to a sibling. Any amount over $25.00 that can not be transferred to a sibling will be issued a refund check. If your student has less than $25 you may submit a request to the food service director for a refund. Any unclaimed lunch funds are donated to our local donation fund to help pay off balances for families struggling to pay off their meals.
Any delinquent debt for an inactive student will be classified as bad debt. The general fund will have to reimburse the food service fund for the inactive accounts by December 31st. The business office may continue to try and collect the unpaid debt .
If you are experiencing financial difficulties please call our food service department at 810-591-4709 we will work with you to make sure your child is receiving a meal. Free and reduced lunch applications are available in school offices, kitchens, on our food service website and online at www.https://fenton.familyportal.cloud/..com. We encourage you to apply online to streamline the process.
