Specials for the Week of October 13th-17th
Sophia Gomez was our Star of the Week. We loved seeing all of her pictures and loved her book about the Three Little Pigs.
It's hard to believe that we are starting our 2nd nine weeks already! Be sure and check out our new photo albums- "Apples Galore" and "Fantastic First Quarter" on my web page! (There is a link to my webpage and eClass at the end of the newsletter)
We are going on a field trip on Friday, October 31st to Corn Dawgs. Please send in your permission slip and money as soon as possible.
LANGUAGE ARTS
- We completed our Jolly Phonics program...thank you for reviewing their sounds in their Sound books.
- Building our sight word vocabulary- (Work on Words): Our new words this week were: was, are, at, of, she
- Writing our name correctly with correct upper and lowercase letters
- Recognizing and reading color words
- Blending sounds to make words
- Working on recognizing rhyming words
- Focusing on features of print
- Exploring non-fiction text
- Beginning our Guided reading groups- please read the books sent home with your child and return the next day
- Choosing a topic during Writing Workshop and adding details to our story
- Using oral language to relate experiences, expand vocabulary, and interact socially
READ and RECORD so we can REWARD!!
Math
- BUILDing Mathmeticians during our Math Workshop
Using math manipulatives to learn about shapes and numbers
Daily calendar math
Working on counting and 1-1 correspondence
Working on describing and comparing 2D shapes and 3D shapes in our environment
Creating and extending patterns
Learning to write numbers 1-10 correctly
Sorting objects by different attributes
Using number talks to explain our Math thinking
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- Learning about maps and globes and our geographical location in the world
- Learning about Columbus Day
- Learning about animals on the farm and the role they play

REMINDERS
- There will be no school on Monday, October 13th for students.
- Please send in permission slips and money for our field trip to Corn Dawgs on October 31st. Parents are welcome to meet us at the farm.
- We are kicking off our year of "Craig Cares" activities with our Great Days of Service Toiletries Drive the week of October 20-23rd and will be sponsored by PTA and Student Council. Each grade level will collect specific items and kindergarten will be collecting toothpaste and toothbrushes.
- Our Mega Minute Celebration will be on October 29th where Bronco awards will be given out.
- Let's help Buddy celebrate Reading by decorating a pumpkin with your favorite storybook character! This can be a family project. The guidelines were sent home this week. Pumpkin judging in the Media Center will occur on October 31st!
