Easy Ways to Teach Your Children about Money
-"It's allowance time". Give allowances on time to teach timely money management. Make sure to set realistic expectations to earn their allowance.
-"I am willing to pay part of it". Teach the difference in needs (which you are willing to provide) and wants (when children want a more expensive version).
-"Do you have your money with you?" Helps children learn to control impulse buying.
-"I will pay you $5.00 to have the yard raked. Do you want to do it?" Helps understand that money does not just come out of an ATM machine.
-"How much tip should we leave?" Teaches math skills and appreciation for service from
others.
-"You have a money problem today, don't you? What are you going to do about it?" This empowers children to take charge of their own money.
