Reading & Writing Units of Study Updates
A Refreshed Version of Guided Reading
We are shooting for a more succinct, yet impactful guided reading session with our students.
(12 -15 mins.)
A minimum of two groups must be seen daily.
The small group area is free from clutter and paper.
Below Level 28/M - Guided Reading [Reading Behaviors & Decoding & Fluency]
Above Level 28/M - Strategy Group [Comprehension & Advanced Reading Behaviors]
*Refreshed* Guided Reading Sequence for Below Level 28/M Readers:
- Targeted Phonics Instruction / High Frequency Words (abbreviated IDI cards/ HFWList)
- Previewing / Picture Walk (Quick!) (use DRA rubric for prompt)
- Provide Teaching Point and Visual (use linked small group guidance document)
- Students Read. Teacher Coaches into Students with quick lean-ins individually.
- Send Small Group Off to Continue Reading the Book Independently
- Specific Comprehension Work- ie. Retell (K-1) and Summary (2nd) as it relates to the DRA rubric and Reading Continuum Indicators *after book is read*

Our 1st Graders are helping as we continue to solve word problems using the SOLVE strategy school-wide, Mrs. Smallwood's students are carrying out their plans independently as they during station rotations. Through collaboration and peer feedback these students are growing in their problem solving.

- Please be prepared to receive students at your doors from 7:15am - 7:25am. After 7:25am, please use your time wisely inside of your classroom.
- Please take attendance in TAC by 9:00pm each day.
- TKES Walkthroughs will continue this week. We will focus on standards 2-Instructional Planning, 3-Instructional Strategies, and 8-Academically Challenging Environment.
