Week of June 18th-22nd
2nd week of camp and we are counting in Spanish and Mandarin!
We are so proud of the dedication and quick progress of our campers as are they not only working hard to get ready for their next grade level in math and reading, but they are also embracing the learning and practice of Spanish and Mandarin.
MATH: All campers have been working on reviewing the math concepts they already know, and are being challenged to acquire new skills that will help them be successful in their new grade level. Using their own summer bridging textbook, campers practice math concepts under the supervision of their camp teachers. As they finish and correct their work, students enjoy math hands-on stations that allow them to "play" while practicing math skills.
READING and WRITING: Every day, campers have 2 twenty to thirty minute reading periods, in which they read at the level in which they finished the school year, or the level they tested in during their first day at camp. Campers who need assistance are helped by camp teachers, and also participate in read-aloud time!
In order to practice and improve each of our camper's writing skills, students do daily entries in their personal camp journals. Teachers read and correct grammar or spelling errors according to each child's level.
SCIENCE: Students do daily STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) stations that vary in skill-level and difficulty to help all campers develop their abilities in all four fields, while at the same time having fun and collaborating with fellow campers of their same age.
In addition to the STEM stations, campers participated in science hands-on experiments in which they made "moon sand" replicating the consistency of the surface of the moon. Also, they have explored the states of matter by making "ooblek" while practicing Mandarin and Spanish vocabulary related to the lessons.
CODING: Campers have enjoyed learning to code and some have already earned coding completion certificates. Way to go to everyone who has tried at their own pace and level! Campers have worked on coding puzzles, apps, video games and even simple computer programs.
COOKING: This week campers learned how to make colorful pancakes, making their very own pancake dough and added their favorite color to make it even more appetizing!
P.E.: Campers participate in 4 periods of physical activity daily: just dance practice twice daily, coached games and a weekly visit to a local park.
SPANISH: Campers are grouped by their Spanish-skill level and guided through Spanish stations that allow them to practice their reading, writing and speaking skills, while developing vocabulary.
MANDARIN: Miss Jie, our Mandarin teacher engages campers into an interactive lesson in a daily basis. Campers have began learning numbers 1-100 in Mandarin, as well as colors and basic phrases of conversation. Campers are informally assessed to know their progress as part of the lesson, and then they are asked to practice as a class, and in small groups. It is incredible how much all campers enjoy learning and practicing their Mandarin skills. Please ask your child about their daily Mandarin lesson and make them feel proud of how fast they are learning!

Upcoming week's schedule:
Clarification on state required documents:
Due to the delay in doctor office responses to parent requests on health forms, we will continue to wait and send reminders about the need to complete your child's files.
Thank you for your understanding that we are forced to request these documents to be able to meet state standards. Ultimately, it is Multilingual Academy's main goal to keep your children safe and healthy.
All campers all welcome, as we wait for doctor offices to complete and send health forms. In the meantime, if you have not done it yet, parents please read and sign the "Parent Handbook" and return to us the very last page. Also, please fill out and submit a registration form. I have attached a link to our web page where you can find all required documents in case you need them again, or you have not yet received a hard copy at our office.
I appreciate your understanding and support, and we all look forward to another amazing week!
Sincerely,
Nelly Forsyth
Director
