Team 2020 VISION
March 2018
Message from Mrs. Lingelbaugh
We have made it to Spring Break and the end of Q3! Report cards are now available to view, and we encourage you to log on and see the progress of your student. Students should be passing all classes and working on maintaining/improving their GPAs, and they should have at least 16 credits (hopefully more) at this point of their high school career.
On April 9th, Mrs. Megan Mayo will join Team 2020 as a second guidance counselor. We are very fortunate that Mrs. Mayo is able to move over from East Middle School during the last part of this year instead of waiting until Fall. This will allow her the opportunity to work alongside Mrs. Webb to learn our processes and procedures and also allow her to get to know the kids before Mrs. Webb goes on maternity leave. Mrs. Mayo will also be assisting students with grades and tutoring opportunities for the remainder of the year, so we are very excited to have her join us! She has been in BCSC for a number of years, and we are pleased to welcome her as a permanent member of Team 2020. Look for an introduction from her next month.
I hope that each one of you is able to find time to relax and recharge during this extended break!
Stacey
Scheduling
With the scheduling deadline having passed, requests are now considered final. Changes to course requests can still be made by filling out a Course Change Request Form that can be picked up from the Team Office. This form requires a parent signature indicating approval of the student's requests, and must be turned in to Mrs. Webb for a final decision. The forms will be accepted though April 30th. Changes will not be made to course requests after this date. If you have questions or concerns regarding your student's schedule for next year, be sure to reach out to Mrs. Webb.

Information for Parents/Guardians on New Vaping Trend
We want to share with you a new trend we are seeing with teenagers. It seems as though “vaping” or the use of electronic cigarettes/vaporizers has become popular with teens and the newest vaping device is know as Juul (pictured below).
A Juul is a small vaporizer that looks like a USB flash drive. The device heats a nicotine juice up to create a vapor which is then inhaled by the user. These devices have become very popular with teens. They are discreet, and the cloud that they produce can be hidden by a shirt sleeve. The vapor smells sweet and fruity. Some popular scents include, creme brûlée, mango, fruit medley and cucumber.
It's very important to know that each Juul pod contains as much nicotine as 1 pack of cigarettes or the equivalent of 200 puffs. Some teenagers have figured out ways to double the nicotine or replace the juice with some other substance such as marijuana.
Nicotine as we know is very addictive. At first the person may feel a high when using it, but over time that wears off. The person is then left with the need to continue consuming it, not for the high but because of the craving. Use of nicotine has been shown to cause long-term affects with concentration, memory and the ability to learn. Now imagine these affects on a brain that is still developing. Consumption of e-cigarette products have also shows a higher rate of bronchitis, increased coughing and respiratory issues. Not only are these devices dangerous to your health, but they are also illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess.
