Frequently Asked Questions
Below, we have provided answers to the most common questions posed by parents. As with everything related to COVID-19, this information is subject to change based on any future guidance we may receive from federal, state, and local officials, the Texas Education Agency, and UIL.
When is the First Day of School?
The first day of school for Weatherford ISD is Thursday, August 20. To access the WISD school calendar, click HERE.
I Have Questions About the School Day for In-Person Learning
- Elementary Campuses
You should have received information from your child's campus earlier this evening. After reviewing, if you have specific questions, please contact the campus office. Elementary students will have recess, music, and PE. At this time, we are planning for a virtual Meet the Teacher event at each campus.
- Middle School Campuses
Hall and Tison Middle School plan to release information to families on Thursday, July 30.
- NGC and WHS
An email from Brannon Kidd, principal at WHS, was sent to families on Monday, July 27th.
What About Career and Technology Classes?
The CTE staff will be working with off-site job placements to ensure industry safety precautions are taken for paid practicums or career prep, if a student has a job.
For HST we are exploring virtual field trips with in class hands on skills as we will not be able to go to hospitals at this time.
What are the Cleaning Protocols and Products?
- Campuses will be cleaned throughout the instructional day.
- Custodial staffing will be realigned to allow for ongoing cleaning of touch surfaces during the instructional day.
- Classrooms will be equipped for cleaning between student transitions.
- Cleaning products will be properly stored when not in use.
- WISD utilizes the Bioprotect product developed by Viaclean to provide a base layer of protection on all surfaces and buses throughout the district. Bioprotect is a preservative antimicrobial coating applied to all surfaces through an electrostatic mist machine to disinfect and provide long-term antimicrobial surface protection that kills and inhibits the growth of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms including the virus that causes COVID-19. Protection begins in 60 seconds and remains effective for up to 90 days. Bioprotect will be reapplied to all surfaces on a 90-day cycle.
- All district facilities will be cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis using the Virex product developed by Diversey. Virex is a hospital grade one-step quaternary disinfectant cleaner that provides broad spectrum kill of microorganisms including SARS-CoV-2.
- In addition to daily cleaning, all buses and facilities will be treated using the Virex product with an Emist electrostatic disinfectant sprayer to cover all surfaces efficiently and effectively.
I Need More Information on Face Coverings
Students in 4th grade and up (health exceptions) are required to use non-medical grade face coverings, covering nose and mouth at all times. Students in grades K-3 are encouraged, but not required at this time. Students will need a doctor's medical exemption for a face covering exemption.
What About Meals for Students in the Virtual Learning Academy?
WISD Child Nutrition staff will establish locations and times for meals to be distributed to students who are enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy.
Will a Student Be Sent Home if they Have a Cough?
If a student has a cough they may be sent home if the cough is accompanied by 2 or more symptoms of COVID-19.
What Will School Look Like for a Student Who is Quarantined for 10 or 14 Days?
If a student is quarantined, their teacher will provide homework and assignments.
What if a Student Exhibits Symptoms During an Athletic Practice?
The student will be referred to the campus nurse or will be separated from the group until they can be picked up from school.
Will COVID-19 Testing be Done at the School?
When a student or staff member is enrolled in Kanga Care, they will have access to COVID-19 testing from the school clinic.
How will Students in the Virtual Learning Academy Receive Assistance with Technology Devices and Wi-Fi Access
The WISD Technology Department will provide opportunities for parents to check out devices for their students. We'll be announcing a schedule as soon as it's developed.
Will Students in the Virtual Learning Academy Need a Webcam?
Students using personal devices will not need a webcam at this time.
Will Online Learning be Exactly the Same as In-Person Learning?
The learning resources for students in the Virtual Learning Academy will be different from the resources used for in-person learning, but the standards covered will be the same and follow the same pacing.
Will All Middle School and High School Honors and AP Classes be Offered?
All AP classes will be offered at the high school level. Honors classes at middle school will be offered based on enrollment.
Select the Learning Environment that Works Best for Your Child by Friday, July 31
Weatherford ISD is offering you the opportunity to select the learning environment that works best for your child for the first six weeks of school:
Option 1: Learning at school
Option 2: Remote, online learning through Weatherford ISD’s Virtual Learning Academy
While we want to see all of our students’ smiling faces in our classrooms, we know that some of our families may want an online option for their children because of the COVID-19 virus. We respect your decision and encourage you to select the learning option that best fits your family.
*The deadline to let us know your preferred learning setting is this Friday…July 31.
Students who do not have a path selected will be enrolled in face-to-face learning for the first six weeks.
*Parents may request to change the learning environment at the end of the first six weeks.
Complete the Enrollment Verification for Returning Students
This year, it is more important than ever that you take a moment to complete verify your child’s enrollment. To complete the enrollment verification for returning students log in to Skyward Family Access.
- Let us know if you will need bus transportation for your children who will be learning at school. While we have not received final guidance regarding social distancing on buses, it is critical that we determine the number of students who will need bus transportation to and from school this year.
- Begin the application process for the Free and Reduced Meals program. In addition to receiving free/reduced priced meals at school for those who qualify, this program may waive or reduce registration fees for the AP exams, SAT/ACT college entrance exams, and college application fees.
- Update email addresses and phone numbers. As we plan for communications to families during the 2020-2021 school year, we expect to be in touch with you more often. We ask that you check your email on a regular basis and that you let your child’s school know if your phone number changes.
