CHANNEL 5 “PAYS IT FORWARD”
Ms. Janice Hobbs, Chandler High Social/Emotional Counselor, was recognized last Wednesday for making a difference in CHS students’ lives. Cheyanne Gaffka, a junior, nominated Ms. Hobbs for the CBS 5 News series “Pay It Forward” Award, and a news crew came to school to videotape Cheyanne presenting the award and $500 cash on behalf of the station. The segment will air this Thursday, February 9th at 6:30pm and Saturday, February 11th at 5:50pm. Congratulations, Ms. Hobbs!
NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS WEEK
This week is dedicated to school counselors, and CHS would like to thank Mrs. Nelson, Mr. Ireland, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Shaw, and Mr. Nold for their service to CHS students and the Chandler community.
School counselors work hard to ensure that students become responsible, productive members of society so that they can meet the challenges of the 21st century. Additionally, our school counselors are pivotal in helping students with their education and career action plan graduation requirements. Thank a counselor today!

STEM IS FUN
CHS, a member of the AZ STEM Program, hosted approximately 100 elementary and junior high students at STEM IS FUN on Saturday, February 4th. The students rotated through classrooms and participated in many STEM-related labs and activities with the opportunity to win prizes at the end. Thanks to the CHS Science Department for sponsoring such a great day!
MORP- FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH
Student Council is very excited to bring back a tradition at CHS…. MORP! What is MORP? It’s the total opposite of Prom. Girls ask the guys, and couples come in casual matching attire; this year we’re going neon! Tennis shoes only since we will be in Payne Gym. Tickets are on sell in the bookstore for $10/person. Guest passes are also available in the bookstore and must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Templeton’s office by Friday, February 17th.

AVID APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FROM FRESHMEN
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an exciting college preparatory class at Chandler High. AVID requirements include enrolling in at least one core honors course each year, completing all of the requirements to be admitted to a four-year college, and maintaining a college eligible grade point average. AVID students will study and/or review nightly, join clubs/sports, participate in college visits, perform community service, and practice leadership skills.
Students considered for AVID are bright students who would benefit from increased academic rigor, organizational support, academic support, and/or who might be the first in their families to navigate the path to college. Current freshmen interested in applying for AVID should see their counselor or Mrs. Templeton for an application.

CIRCLE K FUEL UP NIGHT
CHS is partnering with Circle K for the second FUEL UP fundraiser of the year. Join CHS Cheer, Scruffy, and staff at the Circle K at the corner of Arizona Ave. and Frye Rd. from 4:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, February 8th. Circle K will be drawing names for gift cards and baskets. Write your name on the back of your receipt and turn it in to the box before you leave.
