OLSON OUTLOOK

EDITION #3 - WEEK OF AUGUST 26, 2019

ARE YOU SIGNED UP FOR CLASS DOJO?

All of our teachers have information about signing up for Class Dojo. Once you are signed up for Dojo, we will be able to share information through our "School Story". We will start sending some of our school info through Dojo at the end of August. Please call if you have any questions about how to sign up for this!

COLOR RUN 2019

Thanks to our PTO for their planning and organization of our annual Color Run. Here's the info:

This year will mark Olson PTO's fifth Color Run. Join us for this event on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5-7PM to have fun and raise money for Olson.

Participation is easy: Each Olson student needs to collect at least $15 in pledge money to participate in the event. With that money, your student will receive a free Color Run t-shirt and a free color pack. All forms and money are due Wednesday, August 28th! Forms went home with students last week.

If you have any questions please let us know.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Color Run!!!

BERNIE'S BOOK BANK

Bernie’s Book Bank sources, processes and distributes quality children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland. The project works to encourage a love of reading with access to quality books for all children. WHY? "We believe that books and reading are both the vehicle and the road to a better life".

Every student at Olson received a bright green bags of books on Friday. These are books to read, keep, share, or pass along to other readers. This wonderful project is a great kick off for our 40 BOOK CHALLENGE!

40 BOOK CHALLENGE

This year we challenge all Olson students and staff to read 40 books from August 25, 2019 - May 23, 2020. Teachers have shared information about how this will work in each classroom. As books are recorded and counted, students will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates to local businesses, (movie theater, book store, etc).

Our goal for this challenge is to promote a love of reading, to instill the habit of reading, and to expose our students to a variety of books and genres. We know that reading skills develop as students practice reading.
