Aspiring Educators Program at English Landing
English Landing Elementary is PROUD to host the Park Hill Aspiring Educators Program for the 2019-2020 School Year.
What is the Aspiring Educators Program?
A program offered through the Park Hill Professional Studies Program. The course, along with the program, prepares juniors and seniors from all 3 Park Hill high schools for postsecondary success. Aspiring Educators is a specific course that prepares students for a career in the field in education. All students in this class have an interest of working with children.
What do the high school students do?
Our learning objectives are based off national standards for teachers along with Missouri Learning Standards. Students engage in many topics that you would receive as a freshmen in college (we actually receive dual credit through Northwest Missouri State). We cover; classroom climate, diversity, standards and regulations, lesson planning, assessment, writing curriculum, etc. All of the content revolves around professionalism in the workplace and interns are expected to act as a teacher.
Please help us in WELCOMING our 2019-2020 First Semester Aspiring Educators!
Lunch Room: Guest Tables
As the year is beginning to get into full swing, we would love to inform our English Landing Families of extra space we have for families and guests when visiting your student for lunch. We have tables designated as our “Guest Tables” when you enter the lunch room doors. As English Landing Families choose to come eat a bite or drop in for some time at lunch, we want you to feel comfortable and enjoy this time.
Lunch visitors are welcome to use the “Guest Table” space or choose to sit at a table with the class and your student, as room allows. We have seen a need for this as our regular classroom tables may not always be as comfortable for visitors to spend time with your AMAZING EAGLE at lunch. Your student can even invite a classmate to join you at the Guest Tables! At this time we want our families to know that this optional spot is available, and we are excited to have our families be in the building and a part of our day!
Please help us avoid awkward situations. The 2019-2020 Parent/Student Handbook Reference (pages: 16-17)
Visitors to the Building Friends of students may not be brought to school or arrive at school as visitors. Unruly or disruptive conduct by visitors that interferes with the educational environment or with extracurricular activities may result in limited access or revocation of visitor privileges to school property or functions. In most cases, parents/guardians are allowed to visit school and eat lunch with their child. The school, however, reserves the right to limit lunch visits in appropriate circumstances. Parents/guardians planning to eat lunch with their child should notify the school office one day in advance. Bringing outside restaurant food is strongly discouraged.

Eagles on the Run Update: Postponed Until Spring
Eagles on the Run
Eagles on the Run will be postponed until Spring 2020. We need to make this adjustment because of the current lack of outdoor space. The Lakeview Middle School track has been demolished and the new track will not be ready until the spring. Another factor in deciding to move Eagles on the Run from the fall to the spring is that the race that we participated in last fall, The KC Kids Marathon, was not funded this year and the KC Kids Marathon has been cancelled.
We will plan on starting Eagles on the Run just after Spring Break and ending with our culminating event the first weekend in May. The culminating event will be Sophie’s Run which is a 5k at Lake Waukomis which directly benefits special needs students in the Park Hill School District who need assistive technology devices to communicate.
Thank you so much for your flexibility. Please be reassured, Eagles on the Run was a big success last year and we look forward to offering this opportunity for our EL Eagles for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Mr. McGinley
Annual Enrollment and Residency Verification Question: Image and Contact Information Opt-Out
One of the areas parents were required to mark on the 2019-2020 annual enrollment or residency verification process was about image and contact information opt out.
Every fall the English Landing PTA will publish contact information of English Landing families. The purpose of sharing this directory contact information is so families are able to make connections outside of school. Your families information will be shared unless you indicated that you want to OPT OUT. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the English Landing School Office at 359-4370 or at by Email at EnglishLandingAdministrativeAssistants@parkhill.k12.mo.us.
Thank you!
IMAGE OPT OUT
Throughout the school year, the district or school might take pictures or video and release personal information about students for promotion. Examples might include but are not limited to:
- A special event or program at a school might be covered by a newspaper or television station, resulting in student interviews and pictures.
- Award-winning students might have their names and photos published in a local newspaper, a school newsletter or on Park Hill TV – channel 18.
- The district or school might post pictures of school activities on web pages.
If you do not want your child’s image or information used, check the image opt-out box below.

Park Hill School District School Start Times Update (Preparing for the 2020-2021 School Year)
School Start Times
Based on overwhelming feedback from our Park Hill parents, staff members, students and community members, we decided not to change our start times for the 2019-2020 school year. However, we still have challenges due to the nationwide shortage of bus drivers. In addition, while costs for transportation increased sharply over the last few years, state funding for transportation has not kept up. Because we have some money in our reserves, this gap in funding is not an immediate crisis, but we cannot keep taking money from the reserves indefinitely for this and other costs.
The district has an advisory committee, which will take the findings from our Sleep and Start Times work group and make some recommendations to the district and the Board. We will also ask for more public feedback to inform the Board as it makes its decision. In addition to an in-person public feedback meeting, we will continue to get your feedback using our public engagement web site, Park Hill Listens. To get the latest information and give us your feedback, go to https://www.parkhilllistens.com/school-start-times.

Reminder: CALL BOX System at Front Entrance
Parents/guardians are welcome to request a visit to the school. When planning to visit, please contact the office at least one day in advance so the building principal can set a schedule. The principal has the discretion to set reasonable parameters on school visits (length of stay, number of visitors, etc.). Visitors should limit their visit to the area(s) of the building they have indicated upon check-in with the office. Unauthorized persons found on school property may be subject to arrest or other legal action.
Will all Exterior Doors be LOCKED During the School Day? Visitors must enter the building using the front doors and report to the office. If a visitor needs to enter the building farther than the school office or check out a student, the visitor must register by presenting a valid, state-issued ID to the school’s office staff. Any visit after the first registration will only require a visitor to check in at a kiosk using a valid, state-issued ID.
Do I need to bring my state-issued ID every time when visiting English Landing? Yes. Visitors entering the school beyond the office must present a valid, state-issued ID and receive a printed ID sticker that must be worn and visible during the entire stay. Friends of students may not be brought to school or arrive at school as visitors. Unruly or disruptive conduct by visitors that interferes with the educational environment or with extracurricular activities may result in limited access or revocation of visitor privileges to school property or functions.
What is the process for eating lunch with my child? In most cases, parents/guardians are allowed to visit school and eat lunch with their child. The school, however, reserves the right to limit lunch visits in appropriate circumstances. Parents/guardians planning to eat lunch with their child should notify the school office one day in advance. Bringing outside restaurant food is strongly discouraged. If parents or family members want to join their child for lunch they are encouraged to eat school lunch or bring a sack lunch from home. If parents or family members choose to bring restaurant food to English Landing, which is strongly discouraged in the 2019-2020 Park Hill handbook, then an alternative location will be arranged.
Celebrating Birthdays at English Landing!
Celebrating Student Birthdays: (Park Hill Parent/Student Handbook pages 39-40):
We are happy to celebrate student birthdays and half birthdays (if your child has a summer birthday) at English Landing! To protect the health and safety of our students, families may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates. In order to address any known allergy concerns, a label listing ingredients should be affixed to the package. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased.
At English Landing we need your HELP! Many birthday treats arrive at the beginning of the school day which provides us time to review the class list regarding food allergies or food intolerances, however, many other birthday treats arrive during lunch and often right at the same time the treat needs to be distributed to students. PLEASE plan on arriving earlier for lunch (at least 15 minutes) to give us time to check the pre-packaged treat ingredients with the students in the classroom who have food allergies or food intolerances. Our school nurse, Mrs. Kimbrel, will help with this process so when the lunchroom staff teachers distribute the treat in the cafeteria, additional steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting the health and safety of our eagles.
Please remember: If you want your child to distribute birthday party invitations at school, they will only be distributed if there is a party invitation for everyone in the classroom. Thank you!
