Feb 29, Mix it Up Day at Kernsville Elementary. Students often sit and play with the same kids. Mix It Up Day is an opportunity to “break down the walls” that divide us and get to know some other kids. There is a national Mix It Up Day in the U.S. every year. This year Kernsville students will be talking to one another about things they like to do, tied into thinking about careers. They will be encouraged to sit with someone new during lunch.
March 2, Kernsville Elementary Read-a-thon/Teacher Webbing Celebration, 2-3 PM. This year, $8,598 was raised by Kernsville students who obtained sponsors to encourage reading. Students read a total of 264,068 minutes! The principal will award the top readers and top fundraisers in each grade. The students whose teachers have won the honor of being “webbed” will proceed to their designated chair along the walls where students will web them with duct tape Once the honorary webbing has taken place, Principal Gehringer will announce that they have reached their fundraising goal and he too will be webbed.
March 3, District-wide Food Drive Photo Opportunity, PHS Gym, 10 AM. Come and view the pile of food that was donated during the 11th Annual District-wide Food Drive. The goods will be loaded onto Second Harvest trucks by students from all Parkland Schools and then students will visit the Food Bank to learn about how Second Harvest distributes food to the neediest of our neighbors.
