From the Principal's Desk...
Hello Lange Family,
We are getting into fall and October is the time of year when we start to prepare for the cooler days ahead and celebrate the end of some very hot temperatures. We continue to work with our students to make sure they get into a good routine of school. For some students it has been a harder adjustment to get back accustomed to the rigor of school and establishing friend groups. It is great to have our teachers and parents working together to help students reach the academic results they are striving to achieve. As we continue moving through this year we need your support as we help students focus on getting their classwork and homework done (academics), attend school at a rate of at least 90% (attendance), and model respectful, responsible and safe behavior while at school (attitude). We believe students are more likely to be successful if they excel in these three areas.
Therefore, we encourage parents and guardians to stay actively involved by checking grades and attendance on home access and talk to your student about their Kickboard account, which is representative of their classroom behavior. The behaviors students display at school will help them gain the skills to be successful as they get to the next level of their educational journey.
As we continue through this month, please notice the Important Dates and mark your calendar. Within the next few weeks:
- PTSA meeting will be held on October 5th at 6:15PM in the cafeteria. Please consider attending the meeting to help build our parent-school partnership.
- IPRs will be sent home on October 21st.
- There is no school on October 4th, 28th , or 29th because of teacher collaboration.
Please check our website regularly to stay updated on all the activities taking place here at Lange Middle School. The more you become involved the better connected you and your child will become with our school. Encourage your child to join one of our clubs or try out for an athletic team. During the adolescent years this is a huge factor in students’ level of success. Together we can help all our students achieve success. Thank you for being great supporters of Lange Middle School. We appreciate your continued support of our students and staff as we engage in the difficult work of meeting the needs of EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY!

Team 7B News for October
Social Studies with Mrs. Shoults
The month of October. This coming week we are finishing up explaining the legacy of Greek government on later societies (for example, explain how later societies drew on Classical Greek ideas of limited government, democracy, and trial by jury in constructing their own political systems) and moving forward with comparing the development and characteristics of significant Greek city-states (for example, compare features of Athenian and Spartan society, and explain the factors that influenced the development of each polis). Next week, we will explain the legacy of Greek government on later societies (for example, explain how later societies drew on Classical Greek ideas of limited government, democracy, and trial by jury in constructing their own political systems) and explain the significance of art, science, literature, theatre, mythology, and history in Classical Greek society (for example, describe the values and lessons transmitted by major works of Greek drama and mythology, and explain how these reflected or influenced Classical society--identify examples, describe cultural and social order and draw conclusions about the role of art, mythology, literature, and philosophy within the context of culture and social order). We will be taking our unit test for Greece at the end of October. I hope you all have a safe a fun Halloween!
English with Mr. Sesmas
October is nearly upon us which can only mean one thing, students are about to start a new frightening unit that focuses on the conflict known as person vs supernatural. We will explore the life and works of one very enigmatic and famous American writer. His name is Edgar Allan Poe. Our unit will deal with tales both macabre (future vocab word alert) and suspenseful. And perhaps the best tales of all will belong to Mr. Sesmas who will share some of his own personal harrowing experiences with things that go bump in the night. My classes will also get to have our first big fiesta where we celebrate the success of the students, but scholars must have good grades to attend so make sure you are paying attention in class and giving Mr. Sesmas your best effort.
Science with Mr. Griggs
Hello Lange families!! It was great seeing many of you at our back to school night! I enjoyed meeting you and sharing. This month we explored the atom, molecules, the Periodic Table and how elements work, before moving to physical and chemical changes!
October is upon us and it’ll start getting cooler! On our Nature Walks, we’ve been seeing the changes of the trees, flower blooms, catching grasshoppers and crickets and seeing how all the trees and plants deposit their seeds before winter. It’s a great time to get out and see nature! Inside, we’ll start exploring changes of state and doing chemical reactions exploring how nature combines to form new substances we use everyday. I wish you all have a great month and have a Happy Halloween!

Sensory Friendly Touch a Truck - October 6, 2021 : 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
This FREE event is designed specifically for kids and families who find the loud noises and bright lights of "Tons of Trucks" overwhelming or frankly a little scary! We know this kind of sensory overload is too much for many children, especially those on the Autism spectrum. The Sensory Friendly Touch-A-Truck offers many exciting vehicles, but the horns, lights, and sirens all stay off.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month - Bully-Proof your child
Question: I’ve heard bullying peaks in middle school. How can I make sure my son/daughter isn’t a target?
Answer: There is no way to guarantee a child will never be bullied. But there are things you can do to help. Since bullies are less likely to pick on someone who has friends, encourage him/her to get to know other students. Suggest that he or she join a club, and have him/her invite classmates over. Having friends will build his/her self-esteem, which in turn will discourage bullies from targeting him/her. Also, talk to your son/daughter about bullying Tell them that if they are bullied or see someone else being bullied, they should seek help immediately from an adult, whether it’s you, a teacher, coach, or administration.
Please contact the SPED Team anytime with questions or concerns or call the office at 573-214-3250.
