Be safe in the sun!

When using essential oils, there are a few necessary precautions. Some essential oils, including many citrus oils, are photo toxic or photosensitive which means that they are sensitive to sunlight. When you use them, you will also be sensitive to sunlight. If you use these oils before being exposed to sunlight, you can easily burn or develop a rash. It is recommended that you simply stay out of the sun after using these oils. The general recommendation is to avoid sunlight for at least 12 hours. Also avoid UV light and tanning beds.

Just to be safe, avoid the sun after using these doTERRA oils:

  • Bergamot
  • Cassia
  • Citrus Bliss
  • Elevation blend
  • Ginger (mild)
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemon
  • Lime
  • Melissa (mild)
  • Wild orange

“I’m in the sun all the time! I want to use photosensitive oil in the summer. How?”

  • Diffuse. Using your diffuser is a much safer alternative to experiencing pure essential oils during sunny days. Unless you were to sit with your face directly over the diffuser (not recommended), by diffusing essential oils aromatically, the particles of the oils are not concentrated enough in one spot to cause the same level of photosensitivity as when you apply those oils topically to the skin.
  • Apply topically on feet. Be advised! Your feet get sun exposure too. Only apply if you are very careful to keep the oil on the very bottoms of the feet. If you are wearing socks, then you are good to go!

Facebook Spring Cleaning Class

Thursday, May 14th, 8-9:30pm

This is an online event.

It's officially Spring. This means it's time to get house cleaned. Before you pick up that bottle of lysol, bleach and toilet bowl cleaner though, you may want to think twice about all the dangers that lurk in those bottles. Come and learn how easy and inexpensive it is to make your own cleaning products that are just as effective and healthier both the environment and your family.

This will be a fun event, from the comfort of your own couch! Let me know if you would like an invite!

Check out this video!

This short video shows how lemongrass is sourced and how they extract the oil from the plant. Very interesting! Lemongrass has long been used in Asian and Caribbean cooking due to its subtle lemony flavor and aroma. It has been found to support healthy digestion, and soothe aching muscles. For topical, aromatic or dietary use.
