The Guided Reading Library
Thanks to the great success of the Scholastic Book Fair, we were able to purchase many new books for our guided reading library! There are approximately 8 titles for each of the reading levels A-L! That is almost 100 titles! I just finished putting them on the shelves!. :)
We also just ordered a new resource recommended by Stephanie Harvey called "National Geographic Ladders" for 4th grade.
Grant!
I think you all heard that we got the grant for more books for our guided reading library! We want our students taking books home each night and reading with a purpose. Thanks to the Frisco Education Foundation, we will have a variety of books for our students to take home. I'm not sure of the exact number of books we will be adding, but the check was for $7,239.78!!!
Math Simulations
- As last year, we will not have a 4th or 5th grade math simulation. Teachers should be using their CBAs and CFAs to provide targeted instruction. 3rd grade CBA 4 is cumulative (lengthy like the STAAR) and will serve as a simulation. 3rd grade should also be using their CBAs and CFAs to provide targeted instruction throughout the year
Math Apps
GREAT...SUPER FANTASTIC app for math manipulatives! This has been loaded on the Student Learning Hub Symballo. Please take a look at this app during planning, and brainstorm ways that you might incorporate this app into your workshop.
A note from the ELAR coordinators:
Curriculum Update
Cluster 5: Ask Questions to Infer will be available Monday in eduphoria forethought. You will notice the following:
- All cluster planners now have a link to the video. We also have a new format for the videos so you can see the writers and the documents! We hope you enjoy the new format as well as the accessibility of the videos within the cluster planner document.
- In grades 4 and 5, the cluster planners now include some guidance with "look for" answers for the cluster pre-assessments. The videos for these clusters provide additional detail and guidance. (See samples below.)
Collaborative Planning Time
Please don't forget to let me know what you are doing in your CP time by filling in this Google Form! It let's me know what we will be doing so that I can come prepared, too. :)
At our last IC meeting, we shared how our teams are implementing the process standards across curriculum. Below are some of the ideas that I loved. :)
Here is an example of how a 5th grade class is using coding in their readers response journal.
This is an example of questions/question stems that a 2nd grade class is using to implement the process standards in reading.
Here are some anchor charts that were made to help students during problem solving.
We have the process fluency question stems for reading, but one school created them for math, as well. I thought these were great!
