Patriot Day Food Drive

As part of Patriot Day Remembrance, we will hold our annual food drive to benefit the Caring For Kids food bank. For the month of September, students are asked to bring any non-perishable food items to be donated. Last year, we collected more than 4600 pounds of food during the event; and, this year we have a goal of 5000 pounds. If you prefer, we are accepting cash donations, as well. Each donation of $1.00 equals seven pounds of food. Let's demonstrate our citizenship and sense of community during this time of remembrance.

School Attendance

Student attendance is not only mandatory, but it is critical in helping your child to succeed. Each child is allowed five (5) excused absences via parent note annually. I will, also, excuse one family trip up to five consecutive days with "prior permission from principal," as is allowed by Board policy. This cannot, however be used during testing dates. Let's reach 98% attendance this school year.

Communication Is Key

Are you looking for information about EES? Do you have questions? I know that while many like to post questions on social media, it is easier and more reliable to directly contact the school. We post school newsletters on Facebook, put information on Twitter and Instagram, send out notes on Remind, and add to our website at Weekly teacher newsletters are also available and filled with important information. Email gets a little backed up from time to time, but I promise that we will get to you as soon as possible. Let's keep in touch.

just a little longer

Governor Ivey has extended Alabama's Safer at Home order through October 2, which means we are still required to wear our masks at school. This is only temporary. We will get through this together.

Cell Phones and Smart Watches

Page 4 of the EES Student Handbook, posted at, states the following:

The use of a cell phone during school hours is prohibited unless otherwise authorized by a member of the East Elementary School faculty or staff. Unauthorized use of a cell phone may result in any of the following infractions:

  • Loss of Cell Phone for School Day
  • Principal Confiscates Cell Phone - to be returned to parent/guardian only
  • Detention
  • Any Other Sanction Deemed Appropriate by Principal

As technology has continued to evolve, this policy also applies to smart and Apple watches.

Traffic Flow

WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU! Thank you for doing your part to make our traffic flow as safe and as efficient as possible. We are continuously evaluating roadways for student safety and vehicle ease, so a change or two is always possible. Morning traffic has been completed in under 10 minutes this week, including a six-minute morning on Tuesday. Afternoons, with exception of 'Monsoon Monday,' has been completed between 10-13 minutes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

To help us stay on track, remember to pull all the way to the end of the block and to have the children exit when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. We've got this!
