Fulton Flier
Week of 12th
We hope that everyone had a wonderful spring break! Last week was a short week for us, but it was jammed packed with fun! On Wednesday, we had our spectacular Mrs. Oaks and Mrs. Coletta share strategies on how to help support your child with writing. The presentation is below if you were unable to join. Then on Thursday, our PTA partnered with Maiwand Kabob for a fundraiser. We also celebrated our marvelous Media team for all of their hard work and ensuring that our students continue to have opportunities to access great books even during a Pandemic. We also celebrated our Phenomenal Paraeducators and Support Staff who go above and beyond every day to ensure that all of our students' needs are met and support our teaching staff on a daily basis.
Our third quarter comes to an end this Wednesday, April 14th. Please spend some time over the next few days checking Canvas for any unfinished assignments. If your child has work that he or she has not completed they have until this Wednesday, April 14th to turn it in. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher with questions about assignments and grades.
We also want to celebrate our 1st and 5th graders, who won a Kona Ice party. To help them celebrate, Kona Ice will be on our FES Campus on April 21st. If you are a parent of a 1st or 5th grader, please encourage you child to check out their grade level canvas page for specific times. Great job 1st and 5th graders!
Lastly but definitely not least- this week we will be celebrating our Amazing Assistant Principals, Mrs. Molly Caroland and Mrs. Leslie Brickner. We are so grateful for both Mrs. Caroland and Mrs. Brickner and all they do to serve our FES Community. If you have a moment this week please send them a shout out or thank you at molly_caroland@hcpss.org and leslie_brickner@hcpss.org.
Warmly,
Dr. Burks
Happy Ramadan to our Families Celebrating!

Please email our school counselors, Mrs. Wilson Carr (Jessica_Wilson@hcpss.org) or Ms. Stephanie Dobbs(stephanie_dobbs@hcpss.org) if you would like for your child to have an alternative activity while fasting.

Kindergarten and Pre-K Registration
Kindergarten and Pre-K registration is now open! Please continue to advertise in your community via newsletter, school marquee, and/or social media. Registration fliers have been provided to schools and are also available on the Early Childhood Enrollment and Registration Canvas page. Registration will continue to take place online and finalization will occur virtually. Grade-specific information is as follows:
Kindergarten: please direct incoming kindergarten parents to the updated information on the Enrollment and Registration page.
Pre-K: families of prospective students have two options for submitting the Pre-K application. More information is available on the HCPSS Pre-K program page. Please note, MSDE requires that Pre-K be made available first to students who meet first-priority criteria. When space allows, families that meet second priority criteria will be considered. School staff are directed to keep a waitlist of these applicants and will be contacted directly by the Office of Early Childhood Programs.

Log In to Express Your Interest in the HCPSS 2021-2022 Digital Education Center, Through April 14, 2021
The Howard County Public School System is planning for a virtual school option for students entering grades K-12 who wish to learn virtually for the 2021-2022 school year. Once finalized, the Digital Education Center (DEC) program will give students the opportunity to take all classes and earn credits virtually, while receiving support services from the student’s designated home school. The DEC is intended to function as an additional, separate K-12 center, which will continue to operate even after fully in-person learning resumes throughout the county. The final DEC scope and options are subject to funding, staffing and final Board of Education approval. If the program is not funded, students who enroll in the DEC instead will access instruction through their designated home school.
The Digital Education Center is scheduled to begin in the 2021-2022 school year. Any student entering grades K-12 during the 2021-2022 school year will have the opportunity to enroll in the Digital Education Center. Students must commit to the DEC for the full school year to participate. Students who want to return to in-person learning at a HCPSS school location during the 2021-2022 school year should not sign up for the DEC. Decisions on the 2021-2022 academic year—in terms of students returning in person, hybrid or virtually—have not yet been determined, and will be communicated as soon as possible.
Via HCPSS Connect Synergy, HCPSS is seeking to understand families’ intentions regarding enrolling their children in a virtual school option (if that option becomes available) or having their children attend their traditional HCPSS school. This form is separate from the hybrid survey that families received earlier this school year and is not a commitment for the 2021-2022 school year. Parents/guardians will be asked to commit to enroll their children in the DEC at a later date. Your interest at this time will help facilitate planning.
Please complete this form no later than 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 14. Contact your child's school if you require assistance completing the form.
To complete the form:
- Log in to HCPSS Connect Synergy
- Select More Options from the left panel
- Select Digital Education Center Interest Survey from the bottom of the menu
- Complete the question in the form for each child. Families may select different school options for each child.
Details on the Digital Education Center can be found online. Additionally, answers to frequently asked questions regarding the DEC can be found online and are being continually updated as new information becomes available.
