Newsletter Week 9, Term 4

Huirangi Primary School, Monday 13th December 2021

Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the last week of term! It is hard to believe how fast term 4 has gone. Today's newsletter is jam packed with reflections and notices, so please note dates and changes moving into the new year.

School finishes for our students on Wednesday 15th December at 3pm. As it will be the last time our Year 6 students will walk out of our gates as Huirangi students, we will be forming a Guard of Honour down the pathway to celebrate them as they leave. Parents of Year 6's are more than welcome to stand at the gateway (not onsite) for photo opportunities. Please wear a mask.

End of Year reports come home with your child this afternoon. These are a wonderful celebration of your child's learning journey this year.

Again, a sincere thank you from myself, the staff and our Board of Trustees for being such a wonderfully supportive community. This year has really proved challenging with all the COVID-19 restrictions in place. I must admit I am looking forward to a break from all the COVID updates for a few weeks! I really do hope that the 2022 school year runs in a smoother fashion for all schools across the country!

Enjoy a safe summer holiday with your fabulous tamariki. We look forward to seeing them all again when school starts on Tuesday 1st February 2022.

Ngā mihi nui,

Natalie Looney

Principal

Staffing Changes for 2022

After nearly 8 years of dedication to keeping our school grounds, buildings and swimming pool in immaculate condition, we bid farewell to our caretaker, Maurice Shaw.

Thank you for your service to our school community, Maurice! We will miss you and wish you all the best for the future.

In 2022 we welcome Mrs Adriana Thomas and Mrs Carly Douglas to our staff. Adriana will be teaching alternate weeks in Room 3 with Mrs Julie Walker. Carly will be our Learning Through Play Coach in the Junior School. We know that Adriana and Carly will both be a huge asset to our teaching team!

Taranaki Primary Schools Surfing Champs

CONGRATULATIONS to Philippa and Rawinia Andrews who represented Huirangi School at the Taranaki Primary Schools' Surfing Champs last week.

It was a great day and our girls performed exceptionally well, with Philippa coming in 1st place in the Year 5 Girls section, and Rawina placing 3rd in the Year 6 Girls competition.

Kei te pai raua kotiro! We are very proud of you both!

Year 6 Day Out

Following on in Huirangi School tradition, we treated our Year 6 Students to a special day out. They went to Bowlarama for a day of fun playing Ten Pin Bowling and Laser Tag, followed by pizza and chips for lunch. It was a great day, which our Year 6's have truly deserved.

We look forward to celebrating their time at Huirangi School on Tuesday evening with them, before their last day on Wednesday.

Athletics Day

We had an awesome day at school last Thursday, participating at our school athletics day.

Thanks to Mrs Drinkwater for putting the day together for us. We all enjoyed competing in the events and playing games. We finished off with a house relay-Kiwi the winners for 2021!

2022 Year 5 and 6 Camp

Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th February [Week 2] has been locked in for our bi-annual camp at Okoki.

A letter went home to all 2022 Year 5 and 6 students last week, outlining basic information for the camp. If you didn't receive information regarding this, please contact the office before Wednesday afternoon.

We will be holding a camp meeting for the parents who will be helping during camp, on Thursday 3rd February at 3.10pm. In the event we have too many parents offering their help, we will make a selection prior to this meeting.

Touch Subs & Thanks

If you haven't already paid your touch subs of $10 per player, they need to be paid by the end of the week. They can be paid directly into our school account:- 153945 - 0210342 - 00 with the reference 'Touch sub' and your name.

Thank you to all our wonderful coach/managers! It hasn't been an easy season, but at least we have actually had a season !!

Waitara Foodbank Pataka Kai Food Drive 2021

Huge thanks to families who have given so generously to this foodbank drive. We have been truly amazed at the support shown. Our second car load is going to them tomorrow !

Once again, sincere thanks for your support.

Swimming Pool Closed for the holidays

A reminder to everyone that the pool will be closed to the public over the school holidays. There are a few families who still hold keys from last season. Please return these by Wednesday this week.

BOT News

We were very sad to receive the resignation of Adam Pearce at our last BOT meeting earlier in the month. Adam and the Pearce family have had a very long association with Huirangi School. Adam has been a huge asset to our BOT taking on the Property portfolio. With Adam and Tarryn's girls leaving Huirangi School, Adam felt that his time here is done too. We wish Adam and his family all the best.

The BOT have chosen not to fill Adam's position on the Board until the September 2022 elections, as to do so would require a By-election. In the meantime Zara Ryan has been selected to fill the position left vacant after Sanne Duntjer-Tebbens resigned earlier in the year. Welcome Zara !
