Prevent Summer Slide for your Third Grader!
What is Summer Slide?
During the summertime, it is common for students to lose knowledge that they have gained over the past school year. Some kids do not open a book the entire summer. Because of this, many struggling readers fall behind. In hopes of preventing this for your children, I am including several options to keep your children engaged and constantly learning and reading over the summer! *Summer Camp Spotlight*
Taking advantage of summer camps in your area can greatly benefit your child!! This summer the UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic is having their annual day camp called Big Dawgs. This is a great opportunity for students with or without communication disorders to learn and develop better reading skills. Look for more info below!!
CHALLENGE!!!
Challenge your child to read at least 6 books this summer! According to scholastic.com research shows that 6 is the magic number to keep your child ahead of the game. Find ways to motivate your child by joining a reading challenge at your local library or creating a reward system! Here is a list to help you get started:

When in Doubt, Plan it Out!!
Not sure where to begin? Start by making a plan right now to hold you accountable for your child's learning over the summer! You can incorporate games, books, and outings related to a particular theme each week.
