Grade 1
In first grade, this week we have been reading different versions of the gingerbread man stories. These have included both traditional and modern versions of this character and his story. We have discussed how they are alike and how they are different. The children have created their own gingerbread houses and they are on display in our hallway. We are looking forward to our STEAM day activities on December 18th.
Grade 2
Today is report card day! Students and teachers have been working hard all trimester, and we hope you will sit down with your student and go over their report cards with them. As you can see from the photos, the learning continues every day. Ms. Gillis, Ms. Sorrento and Mrs. Hilton seen here working with students during reading and math workshop.
Grade 3
Third grade students are working on area and perimeter in math. Perimeter is the distance around an object or shape that is found by adding together all the lengths of the sides. Students are learning to multiply side lengths to find the area of a region in square units. Families can enhance and develop conceptual understanding by discussing real world examples using area and perimeter or measurement. Using measurement tools at home such as rulers and tape measures can help students grasp the meaning of units of measurement.
Grade 4
Our fourth graders are immersed in their study of immigration through read alouds, videos, conversations, and research. We are tracking where our ancestors came from using map skills. We are using full body movement to help learn, retain, and extend our understanding of division and using math vocabulary, including the terms “factors” and “multiples”, to discuss and write about math.
Grade 5
The 5th grade is preparing for next week's STEAM Week. We will be doing a water filtration project. This is very practical as having clean water is an issue in most countries of the world. Our preparation includes reading stories of how other countries have a challenge in getting clean water, designing a water filtration system, doing an experiment to see if the system works, evaluation the results, and changing the design of the system to improve if needed. We are also having experts from the community come in and talk about water and the filtration of water.
PTA
Thank you to all of the volunteers that made the Holiday Shoppe a successful event for our students!!!! In June the PTA will be holding elections for the following board positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
