On September 30th we were privileged to have Karissa Merrylees from Sudbury Public Health and Districts give virtual presentations to our students. Among other topics, Karissa addressed the importance of wearing masks when physical distancing is not possible, and she reminded students that we have a collective responsibility to do our part, both on and off campus.

From Ms. Ecclestone in the Library
Classes will visit the library over the next couple of weeks to view the documentary, The Social Dilemma. I think as parents we all struggle with the role that cell phones play in our children’s lives. The documentary examines the ways in which big tech manipulates human attention for profit. It also looks at the impact of social media on mental health, the spread of disinformation, the radicalization of extremists around the globe, and political polarization.
Let’s face it, the technology is not going anywhere which is why it is vital that our young people understand how these technologies work so that they can take control of them, rather than the other way around. The library has a number of titles from the experts in the documentary including Jaron Lanier, Cathy O'Neill and Shoshana Zuboff.
