A few reminders...
Weather Delays/Closures
When school is delayed or closed due to poor road conditions or inclement weather, families will be notified via School Messenger. In addition, information is posted on the School Status section of the NLESD website. We also post information on our social media accounts - X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.
Safe Arrival
We have added SafeArrival as a means of reporting student absences. Parents/Guardians have received emails outlining the addition of SafeArrival along with guidelines on how to use the system. If you have not received the email, or if you have any questions, please let us know.
Attendance is a major priority to us and we ask for your support as we work to ensure students are in school and attending class on a regular basis.
Find Updates Quickly...
Our school website is updated daily. You'll find our announcements, assessment calendar, communication from the School District, Guidance information, and many other resources. You can also find news on our Twitter (X) feed @mchs_nl or on our Facebook page @Marystown Central High School - Clippers.
Report Cards
Report cards were distributed on Dec. 1st. We encourage parents/guardians to review their child's report.
Upcoming...
Reminder: Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conferences
As communicated through School Messenger, Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday Dec. 6th from 1:30-4:00PM and 5:30-7:00PM. No appointment necessary. Drop by during a time that is convenient for you. We look forward to this opportunity to connect with our families. As parents/guardians, you are important partners in learning. We strongly encourage effective communication between school and home. We hope you attend if at all possible. If you are unable to make it during these times, please contact the school to make alternate arrangements to discuss your child's progress at MCHS.
Wellness Activities
TO BE RE-SCHEDULED
We planned an afternoon of wellness based activities on Wednesday, Nov. 29th. However, due to weather, the event had to be postponed. We are working on an alternate date. Based on feedback from our students, staff, and families, we have made Wellness and Positive Relationships one of our focuses for this year. To that end, we are planning to provide students with a variety of opportunities to engage in activities that serve their overall well-being.
Holiday Spirit Days
The School Spirit sub-committee of our Student Leadership group has put together some festive fun as we head in to Holiday Break. Our theme days will culminate with a variety of activities on Dec. 20th.

News and Notes...
Remembrance Day Ceremony
We held our Remembrance Day Ceremony on Nov. 10. A big thank you to Ms. Kavanagh who has led in the planning of this ceremony for many years. We appreciate the efforts of the students, staff members, and special guests who worked together to make this ceremony so beautiful. Our students were incredibly respectful in their remembrance and reflection. Lest We Forget.
Available Supports
This is an important time to remind students and families of some of the supports available at MCHS. Our Guidance Counsellor, Ms. Cusick, provides a wide range of support to our school community. Please view the Guidance Office website for an extensive overview of supports and resources. The tutoring for tuition program will begin in the coming weeks. Please contact Ms. Cusick with any questions regarding this program.
Our Youth Outreach Worker, Jeff Moulton is at our school on Wednesdays. He is available to connect students with a variety of resources that support social and emotional well being.
Following the break, Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor, Victoria Walsh, will be at MCHS on a monthly basis. We will share additional information about this service in January.
Biology 3201 Classes
On Nov. 22nd our Biology 3201 classes celebrated a special birthday! They also led the way for our students and staff to help raise awareness for 22q. Big thanks to Ms. Renee Walsh and students!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Emily Billard! Emily's artwork was chosen as an honourable mention prize winner for the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association Winter Art Contest!
THANK YOU!
Thanks to the folks at Aylward’s Home Hardware in Marystown! Mr. Andy Edwards dropped by with a donation to our Breakfast Program. We are incredibly grateful for the support of our school community.
Thanks to Irene Jackman, mortgage professional with Dominion Lending Centres. Irene decided she wanted to support local groups by selling tickets on quilts she makes. We are so grateful that she chose our school's Breakfast Program as one of her first recipients.
Extra-Curricular Activities
New Seasons
Ms. Cusick and Mr. Dominie are busy with our Girls and Boys Volleyball teams. Both teams will be participating in invitational tournaments in the coming weeks. We will share schedules and results once they become available.
Our Girls and Boys Hockey teams have participated in tournaments already this season. Both teams will host a tournament over the course of this year. Many thanks to our teacher-sponsors (Ms. Cusick/Ms. Walsh, and Mr. Hackett) and to the parent volunteers who help provide these opportunities for our students.
