Assuring learning excellence and readiness for a changing world.
A Change in the Seasons...
As our cold weather is reminding us, there are changes in the air! First quarter grades are posted, and we will be celebrating our 1st quarter Shining Scarlets on November 30th at a breakfast at 7:15 am. Shining Scarlets are students who have been recognized by their teachers for going above and beyond in the classroom to demonstrate one or more of the following attributes: academic achievement and improvement, effort, initiative, service and creativity.
Fall sports are coming to an end; we have had our winter sports PAC meetings, and winter sports are beginning!
November 14th was National Signing Day. Congratulations to Scarlet student-athletes Ashley Gustavson and Rachel Luedtke who will be taking their talents to the next level. Ashley will be attending Wayne State and playing basketball while Rachel will be attending MSU, Mankato and playing soccer.

Cell Phone Use Reminder
Would you partner with us to help students develop cell phone habits that promote appropriate use, respecting time and place? Language that we use in school includes, "chromebooks are your productivity device, cell phones are a personal device." We know if we have consistent messages from both home and school, we can have a bigger impact on positive behavior. The following is the cell phone expectations outlined in our student handbook:
Students are allowed to bring cell phones/electronic devices into the building and use before and after school, during passing periods and during lunch. Students are not allowed, unless pre-approved by the teacher, to use or have their electronic device accessible during class. If a student violates the teacher’s policy, the device can be confiscated and returned to the student at the end of the day. If a student has multiple violations, the device will be given to the Assistant Principal and they will contact the parent/guardian so they can pick it up.

Approaching Deadlines: Senior Portraits and Grad Ads for the Yearbook
It is already November, and the deadlines for submitting senior photos and grad ads are just around the corner. Please review the following information. If you have any questions, please email Meredith Mayra at mmayra1@isd77.org.
Senior Photos need to be submitted by Friday, January 18th, 2019. We would love to have a picture for each student. If you do not have a senior photo, please let me know and we will work to try and find a way to take a picture for the yearbook. Options for graduation photo submissions:
[Preferred] Photos can be emailed to Ms. Mayra: mmayra1@isd77.org
Photos can be submitted electronically through the yearbook website: Pictavo Community.
Photos can be mailed to Ms. Mayra through the Main Office at Mankato West or hand-delivered to room 210. Please include a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope) to ensure photos are returned to you.
Grad Ads are optional “ads” for your graduating senior. They are 1/8 of a page and will be placed in the 2019 yearbook. The cost is $25 and you can include a photo(s) and message to your graduating senior. The deadline for submitting these ads is Friday, March 1st, 2019. You can design and create your own ad by going to our pictavo community web page OR you can submit your photos/message and money directly to Meredith Mayra for a yearbook staff member to design on your behalf.
Further guidelines for senior portraits and directions for submitting both senior portraits and grad ads can be found by visiting our Mankato West Yearbook Website.
