Message From the Principal

Happy Friday Titans!

Although we only have four more weeks of school we have much to do, and we are still ramping up at Elkins Pointe. This week we wrapped up the 8th grade Georgia Milestones and started End of Course Tests (EOCT) for the 8th graders taking high school courses. We also celebrated our Professional Assistants with a wings-and-things luncheon.

Next week, we will finish up the ECOTs, the 7th grade will go on their Junior Achievement field trip, 8th grade dance tickets go on sale, the Band Trip will head South to Orlando, and the 8th grade Orchestra will depart for Nashville. Georgia Milestones Testing for the 6th grade and 7th grade will begin in two weeks on May 6th. Please Note: There have been some schedule changes for the Band, Orchestra, and Chorus concerts. Also, the PTSA Student Chat has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience. These events were scheduled at the beginning of the school year long before the dates were finalized for Georgia Milestones.

Also, I wanted to give parents plenty of notice that our school building will close for renovations on May 24th. The construction will involve the HVAC and wiring systems. Hence, the Elkins Pointe front office and Summer School will be operating out of Crabapple Middle School. We are not due to return to the building until our preplanning in August. For this reason Camp Titan Up will take place on the first day of school. Information about the summer hours, office location, and back-to-school information will be added to the website before the last day of school.

Tomorrow, on Saturday, April 27th, "Team Titan" will be running at Hembree Runs Wild 5K. Please join Mrs. Ingram and the Running Club at Hembree Runs Wild! If you have not registered for the 5K, registration opens at 7 AM. Walk-ups are welcome! The race starts at 8:00 AM. Run the race and stay to enjoy the festival at our feeder school!

Have a WILD WEEKEND, Titans!

MILESTONES & EOCT INFO

Big picture

Georgia Milestones Info

The Georgia Milestones is a comprehensive, end-of-grade (EOG) assessment program given in middle school to grades 6-8. Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The Georgia Milestones Assessments provide a measurement of student achievement: what they have learned and can do at the end of their grade level year (as described in the expectations stated in the Georgia Performance Standards). The primary purpose of Georgia Milestones is to improve student achievement by providing information that guides plans for improving teaching and learning.

What types of questions will be on the Georgia Milestones Assessments?

• Open-ended (constructed response) items in English Language Arts and math

• A writing component within the English Language Arts Assessments (in response to passages read by students)

• Nationally norm-referenced items to provide a national comparison, alongside criterion-referenced items

• Multiple choice items
