Time for New IB Units!
We begin the new grading cycle this week and a new IB Unit of inquiry for our elementary students. At Las Palmas, our leaders learn their subjects through six transdisciplinary themes. These themes support our leaders as they take ownership of their own learning, collaborate with others, and take action in their school community. The 6 themes are:
Who We Are
Where We Are in Place and Time
How We Express Ourselves
How the World Works
How We Organize Ourselves
Sharing the Planet
Students learn and experience how these themes are connected across each of their subject areas. We encourage you to communicate with your child and their teacher about the learning experiences being designed in school for them. Ask your child about their new IB unit of inquiry for this next grading cycle. Thank you families for sending us your best and choosing Las Palmas Leadership School for Girls.

Quienes somos

Transdisciplinary Themes
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework differs from a traditional learning model by using transdisciplinary learning. This means, students are learning between, across and beyond different subject areas rather than focusing on one subject at a time. This allows students to absorb knowledge better and apply it to real-life scenarios. For example, if a grade level is focusing on the them "how we organize ourselves," they will apply that in math, reading, social studies, science, and even specials like art, music, and PE. Transdisciplinary Themes help guide the Unit of Inquiry and change with each grading cycle for different grade levels. The Six Transdisciplinary themes are:
Who we are.
Where we are in place and time.
How we express ourselves.
How the world works.
How we organize ourselves.
Sharing the planet.
These transdisciplinary themes together provide children with authentic learning experiences that are not confined to the boundaries of traditional subjects. Although subjects play an important role in learning, PYP learners explore real-world problems by going beyond subject boundaries. Students have opportunities to reflect on the significance of their learning to take meaningful action in their community and the wider world. Source: IBO.org
