Virginia
- The Virginia Colony was the first of the original 13 colonies
- The Virginia Colony was founded in 1607 by John smith and other colonists including John Rolfe backed by the London Company, at Jamestown.
- Plantation agriculture (tobacco, wheat, corn)
- Virginia was governed as a Royal colony
South Carolina
- Carolina Colony was founded in 1633 by eight English nobles with a Royal Charter from King Charles II
- North and South Carolina were one colony until 1729.
- The state was named in honor Charles IX of France and then King Charles I and King Charles II of England.
- In 1712, North and South Carolina were officially divided.
- Natural Resources: Fish, forests (timber) and good agricultural land. Farming and Plantations were important. Exported agricultural products to other colonies.
Maryland
- The Maryland Colony was founded in 1633 by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore and other colonists, at Baltimore.
- called Maryland in honor of king Charles 1wife.
- Not dominated by a specific religion which gave way to religious freedom for Baptists, Catholics, Anglicans and others.
- Natural Resources: Fish, forests (timber) and good agricultural land. Farming and Plantations were important. Exported agricultural products to other colonies.
