Best practices for handling a series in your local catalog
As we continue to clean up MARC records for union catalog...
You might see changes show up now and then in your local catalogs as we continue catalog clean-up. Bear with us! We're trying to make records as uniform as possible so that they'll meld together in the union catalog.

Here are some helpful tricks and tips...
1. Please don't put the number of the series in the title, unless that's actually part of the title.
2. Use the 490 field to indicate a series (490a is series title, 490v is number of the series). It's hyperlinked for easier searching, anyway!
3. Yes, we know sometimes there are inconsistencies in various items in a series as they come to us from vendors and from Mitinet/Z-imports. We're trying to improve those as we see them to keep them uniform across the board. :)
