Lothrop Elementary and Middle Level School Sept. 3, 2018

Welcome Back from Lothrop Principal-Debbie Alexander!

Dear Lothrop Community!

It has been a strong start to the year, expectations are being set and students are quickly settling in to learning. It was an extremely hot first day, but Disaster Recovery helped to keep the air moving by bringing us fans for the classrooms the day before and left them through the hot spell. Thank you Disaster Recovery!

The Pittsford Fire Department joined us for our first day, although it was 1:30 AM when they arrived! We had a little glitch with our sprinkler system which sent water shooting out of Town Hall. We were ready to open at 4:00 AM and are grateful for their response and help with problem solving.

To those who are new to Lothrop, welcome! You can expect to hear from me about once weekly through our weekly newsletter. If you or someone you know is not receiving nearly weekly communication, please let Sara in the office know ASAP. If we indicate that it is fixed and information is still not getting to the right places, please contact us again. Solid communication is one of the foundations on which successful schools are built and we need to know when it is happening and when it is not.

I would like to welcome the following staff members to our Lothrop Family. We are thrilled that you have joined us!

Welcome Back from RNESU Superintendent-Jeanne Collins

Dear parents and guardians

Welcome back to school! We are excited to have your children back with us and have been working throughout the summer preparing for the new school year. I had the opportunity to visit the schools the first day and enjoyed the shared excitement on the faces of teachers and students alike.

We have a new transportation coordinator this year. David Shields comes to us from Florida with years of experience in municipal transportation. Becky Congdon has retired, though she will continue with us as a driver and supporting the new coordinator as he learns our routes. If you have any concerns or questions for David, please use the Let's Talk button on any school website. It is a great tool for any of your concerns and questions on any topic .

Recently, we had an event unpacking our mission and vision with community members. I want to thank everyone who joined in this event. We did the same activity with teachers and paras on the first day of in service. I will share this work with you shortly, as we merge all of the work together into a concise document. The mission and vision of RNESU is what guides our decisions as we work with your children. Stay tuned for the result of that work shortly.

We are pleased to announce that our schools in RNESU all received state safety grant funds which will allow us to address entrance security and internal communication systems. This work will begin this fall and will increase our ability to manage who has access to our schools and how to communicate with staff during an incident.

I wish for all of you a wonderful school year, full of learning and enriching opportunities! Please feel free to reach out with any ideas, comments and questions at any time.

Jeanné Collins

Pittsford Rec Soccer

Soccer season has begun! Randy Adams is looking for coaches and players. We have a great need for boys in grades 3-6 and a few more girls to round out the roster would be helpful. Please check in at the front office or with Randy Adams if your student wishes to join or you are able to coach!
