Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

One of the reasons our school is so great is because of our parent involvement. I would like to invite each of you to consider how you can support our school's PTO. The PTO is an amazing group that supports our students and staff in so many ways. At this time, we have a small but mighty group of parents who need your help! If you can help in any way, please click on the link below. Examples of helping could be sending in some items for a party, helping with a fundraiser, taking tickets at the door of an event, or helping to clean up after an event. EASY! Won't you step up today? Click below to answer a two question survey.

I hope you have a great long weekend, enjoying family and friends!

Your Principal and Partner,

Dr. Pendleton

Conference Week Begins on Monday and Runs Until Friday

Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with you next week, for parent-teacher conferences. They have a lot of information to share with you about your child's progress in school. If you did not get the chance to sign up for a conference online, then please reach out to your child's teacher through email and see if a time can be arranged.

Please also remember that students will be dismissed early on both Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Dismissal will begin at noon rather than 2:45, so make sure to make arrangements for your child. If your child will be going home a different way than usual, please send a note into the front office to let us know.

Georgia Milestones Test

As we begin to think about spring, we'd like to take this time to remind the parents of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, that your students will be taking the End of Grade (EoG) Georgia Milestones Assessment in April. This is a state test which measures what the students have learned in Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

To learn more about the Milestones and what will be expected of the students, please click on this link to watch a short three minute video.

Stay tuned each week to learn something new about the Milestones and what you can do to help your student be successful on the test.

K Kids

The K-Kids have done it again! They made cards for the seniors at the retirement home in Duluth. We would like to thank Pam Frey in advance for taking the cards and helping our students Share Kindness in our community.

The K-Kids will meet again on Monday, March 16 at 7:45 am in the Media Center.

Anti-Defamation League Southeast "No Place For Hate" Student Contest

Who: Students in grades 3-5

What: The contest asks students to imagine a world without hate. Students should consider what that would feel like, look like, sound like, and what can be done to make the world a place where all people are accepted and appreciated for who they are. Students should also consider what they can personally do to help create a world without hate, and who inspires them to work towards this goal.

How: Through original written or artistic expression (essays, poetry, short stories, screen plays, videos, drawings, paintings, photography, collage and computer art)

When: Students create and submit entries through mail by March 13, 2020. Please pick up an entry form from outside your counselors' door.

Why: Because we are counting on YOU to make our communities no place for hate!

Pick up entry forms outside Ms. Marantz and Ms. Penland's door. If you need the school to mail your entry for you, please turn it in by March 12.

Attention All Parents of Fourth Grade Students!

Does your child get along well with others and is a good problem solver? Do they have good communication skills? Would their teacher describe them as dependable and responsible? If you answered yes to these questions, we highly encourage your fourth grader to apply for one or more of these positions:

  • Safety Patrols
  • Peer Mediators
  • School Store Employees

We are currently taking applications for all three positions. Please read the application carefully, as there are many requirements for the students and their families. Applications are due no later than Thursday, February 20th at noon.

Fourth graders were given the opportunity to take an application last week. Applications are also attached below.

Feel free to contact a counselor for a copy of the application or to ask questions.

Gwinnett Online Campus (GOC) Registration Information

Students in grades 4-12 interested in attending Gwinnett Online Campus full time for 2020-21 must complete the registration process during the month of February. An informational meeting is set for Feb. 26, 6:30-7:30 p.m., or check out informational videos online. Once a grade level is full, a waiting list will be established. GOC does not offer mid-year enrollment.

Digital Learning Days

The Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) 2019-2020 school calendar includes two make-up days to address school days missed due to inclement weather. In addition to these days, GCPS also has the option of making up days missed due to inclement weather using Digital Learning Days.

A Digital Learning Day is considered a school day, so students will be accountable for completing the teacher assignments from home, just as they would do at school. The assignments will be found on the teacher’s eClass course page under the Digital Learning Day icon and will be checked by the teacher and considered in the grading process.

Spring Milestones Schedule Released - 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students

Do You Have a Parent Portal Account?

You may have heard about Gwinnett's Parent Portal. The Parent Portal is a website that will allow you to log in and see your child's information, such as attendance, grades, standardized test scores, etc.

If you need to register with the portal, please print and complete this registration form and turn it in to the main office. Along with the completed form, you are required to show a photo I.D. for verification.

We Have a School Store

Berkeley Lake is proud to have our school store open daily before school starts! It is run by highly qualified 5th grade students. Each morning the school store volunteers are in charge of setting up the store, selling items, closing the store, and counting and depositing the money collected. They do all of this before 8:15 in the morning! Our store features school supplies and snacks. All profits go to our Care Team, which helps families in economic need, and the BLES School Counseling Department.

Berkeley Lake Recycles

Berkeley Lake recycles aluminum cans and old clothes and shoes (in any condition) in the two bins in the upper parking lot. The Green Team receives 10¢ per pound of donations, which helps pay the fee for the weekly paper and cardboard pick-up. The aluminum cans are recycled at Progressive Recycling on Simpson Circle. Please support our Green Team by recycling these items here at Berkeley Lake. Thank you!

Remember to Save Those Box Tops!

One easy way to support your school is through the PTO Box Tops for Education collection. Send in Box Tops from products you purchase. To help with counting, you can download this Box Tops Collection Sheet.

Make sure to put your Box Tops on the sheet or in a bag with your name and teacher on it. Drop it into the wooden box in the main hallway near the water fountain. Doing this automatically enters you into a contest.

Each month, we’ll hold a random drawing of all students who submit Box Tops. Winners will be announced on the morning announcements at the end of each month. The prize? A coupon for a free ice cream or an item from the student store. This fundraiser has helped us earn hundreds of dollars for our school!
