Superintendent's Update
June 19, 2020
This was such an exciting week in CCPS! First, it was the last official week of the school year. I am hopeful that the next school year will bring something closer to normal for us, but we are planning for all potential scenarios. Our Re-Entry Steering Committee has been charged with spearheading this task. We will be publishing their meeting minutes following each meeting so that you can stay informed on the level of discussions that are occurring in terms of our re-opening plan. You can see the June 8 meeting minutes HERE.
For me, the most exciting point of the week was our surprise visit to Elkton Middle School to announce that Ms. Chelsea Jones had been selected as our 2020 CCPS Teacher of the Year. Our announcement this year was very different than our usual event but it was still fun to share such great news. We wish Chelsea the very best going forward in the state competition. We will be cheering for you, Chelsea! I would like to congratulate Chelsea and the other twenty-five nominees who are each wonderful representatives of the teaching profession and CCPS. You can check out more about each nominee on our Teacher of the Year Nominees playlist featured HERE .
It was also great this week to feature each of our high school graduation videos. You can view each of these ceremonies on our CCPS YouTube Channel.
As always, thank you for your support of CCPS!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Summer Conditioning for Athletes
As we continue to work through these unprecedented times, we are excited for the opportunity to have our student-athletes begin summer conditioning in preparation for fall sports. Under the guidance from the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association, Cecil County Public Schools will begin outdoor athletic conditioning Monday, June 22, 2020. Indoor conditioning will begin the following week. We have established a clear protocol for all coaches and student-athletes to follow which will be posted on the CCPS Athletics website this weekend. This plan has been reviewed by the Cecil County Health Department and the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services. High schools will be communicating with families to share details.
