"The Tell~Tale Heart"
Edgar Allan Poe
~By Alex Bracey~
Summary of the Story
"It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain." Poe stated in his short story as he plotted the murder of his employer. Poe watched the old man in his sleep for seven days, not yet feeling enough sagacity to kill the man. Then on the eighth Poe wrote, "I felt the extent of my own powers". For upon that night the man awoken, only angering Poe enough to kill the man. Poe had executed the perfect plan, until there came a knocking at the street door. Poe answered the door, "There entered three men, who introduced themselves with perfect suavity, as officers of the police." Poe hid the murder perfectly until the guilt caught up to him, forcing him to turn himself in.
