1 Down...1 To Go!
This week is the first week of the last nine weeks for this semester :) Grades have been finalized, and report cards will go home tomorrow (Thursday, October 15). I have really enjoyed getting to know all of my students this semester. I have WONDERFUL classes, and I look forward to seeing them every day! I know that is what a teacher is "supposed" to say, but I truly do mean it! Thank you for sharing your children with me! They are such a blessing.

Research Project
We will begin our Research Project on Monday of next week. Students need at least 10 note cards in class on Monday. These can be bought or made. Students will be researching a god or goddess of their choosing (kind of) and then joining with their partner to collaborate on the presentation. Presentations will be submitted through canvas and presented to the class on Monday, October 26. Students will have a rubric to follow and questions to guide their research. They will be turning in note cards with correct MLA citation and completing a bibliography page in MLA formatting. Students will be able to work on this from home if they get behind in class. Please ask them to show you their work and discuss what they are learning with you throughout the week. This will help to hold them accountable for the assignment. I will not accept late presentations. This is a test grade.
The Odyssey
In the past, my students have really enjoyed learning about The Odyssey. I think I owe a HUGE Thank You to the entertainment industry for making so many movies with these mythological characters as well as Young Adult fiction authors for including them in their stories. The plot is great, the language is tough! We will do all reading of The Odyssey in class. Some of this will be aloud, some will be using an audio. We will also analyze passages for specific content and write an analytical essay. I will include more about this essay in the coming weeks. We will not cover the entire epic, but will focus on Books 1,5,9,10,11,12,16,17,21,22,23. I have set up a module in canvas that will hold the majority of the resources we use in class, as well as assignments that students need to complete. Please encourage your child to say up to date with the calendar and complete their assignments on time.
I will add some links below that may help your child review, and may give you some insight on what they are learning in class. If you have never read it, please join us :)
