WOW! This has been the highest donation from Colegio Interamericano! We have achieved and surpassed our goal! Thank you to all who donated and thank you to the participants that came out to the race last Sunday! The kids were so excited to see Mr. Hunt get pied!

MAP Testing Schedule!

* MAP testing is coming up next week! Your child will bring home a MAP goal sheet with a goal written out for each area of the MAP test. This sheet provides a focus for your child's abilities, organization and motivation. Please review and sign this sheet with your child.

On these days please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, and eats a good breakfast. Each section will dress up on the days they take the MAP test. Thank you for your support with this!

This week in Singapore Math!

This week students will continue with Chapter 19-Area and Perimeter. Students will understand the meaning of area and perimeter, use square meters and feet to find and compare the area of plane figures. Also, students will estimate and measure the area and perimeter of small and large surfaces.

This week in Literacy!

This week we will begin with Theme 15 Week 2- Precious Resources. The comprehension strategy for this week is Use Fix-Up Strategies: using strategies when you get stuck on a word. We will also review Create Images. For grammar, students will review irregular verbs, such as go, be, and bring, and suffixes, such as -ly and -fully. The vocabulary for this week includes renewable, diminish, damage, achieve, and adequate. Students have been reviewing comprehension strategies including, Reading the Questions First, Evaluating the Questions, Defining Words through Context Clues, and Helpful Tips such as "Always look back at the passage," and "Read all answer choices", in order to prepare for the MAP test.


*RAZ-KIDS!

Please make sure your child is reading each night, listening to the stories, and taking the quizzes. Reading for 20 minutes each night is one of the best ways for your child to become a better reader. Third Grade is tracking the number of books read in order for the class to earn incentives, such as a popcorn party! Thank you for your help with this!

This week in Science!

Our final science unit of the year will be Habitats and Environment. In this unit, students will explore the essential question "How can we and why should we protect the plants and animals in our local environment?". Our upcoming field trip to La Granja Don Pietro will help support the learning in this unit. Please send in a clean, empty 2-liter soda bottle by Tuesday for one of our exploration activities.
