From the PTA Advocacy Chair
One of the challenges of the school districts not having control of the calendar is that year-round schools as they exist in Wake County today are in jeopardy. According to the NC calendar law enacted in 2004, traditional public schools have to start on the Monday nearest August 26, and end on the Friday closest to June 11. This gives our traditional public schools a very tight window to fit in makeup days. It also forces seniors to have exams after Winter Break, and partnerships with area community colleges and universities are difficult with variant schedules.
While multiple bills have been filed and passed the House, as of yet none have made it to the Senate floor. The bill is mired in actions from the tourism industry who claim that having traditional schools out in August increases revenue from the state.
Please go here to find your state elected officials and write them a quick email to say please support SB93, allowing Wake to have school calendar flexibility.
Additionally, if you have strong feelings about year round school continuing, please contact members of the school board by searching here.

Box Tops and Tyson A+ Labels
Help Us Raise Money for TCE!
Great job Turner Creek! We earned $220 with the March submission. This brings our annual earnings to $784!! The next Box Tops submission date is November 1, 2019. Please make sure they have valid dates (dated 11/1/2019 and beyond). If the Box Top is labeled between 3/1/2019-10/30/2019, we have to throw them away! The Box Tops collection bin is in the TCE lobby across from the main office.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school buy what it needs. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. Here is a link showing participating Box Tops products.
Clip Tyson Project A+ labels from participating Tyson® product packages and send them to school with your child. We’ll collect the labels and send them to Tyson Foods, and Tyson Foods will send our school a check. Each label is worth 24¢!
Please drop your Tyson Project A+ labels in the Box Tops collection bin in the TCE lobby. Here is a link for a list of participating products.
