January 26th 2019
Dear KA Families,
In this smore you will find updates on ELA, Math, Phonics, and IB. The link to sign up for a Community time visit will also be available below. As we come to the end of the month of January, we get ready for a shift in our schedule and the change in specials. Starting February 4th, we will no long have Art and Music, instead we will have Science and P.E.--Spanish will continue to be every day.
Finally, we would like to kindly remind you that Morning Meeting begins at 8:30. Students that come with breakfast any time after 8:30 will eat breakfast for snack. Due to the new schedule, snack may take place later on in the day and as a result we encourage all students to arrive at 8:10 in order for them to have enough time for breakfast.
Please enjoy a restful weekend!
Warmly,
Ms. Perez & Ms. Nasir

ELA
Math
In math, we have ended our fifth math unit on comparing numbers! We ended the unit by counting to 100 in order to deepen our understanding of small and large numbers. By counting we saw the order of each number and noticed that smaller numbers are closer to 0 and greater numbers are closer 100. Consequently, students are now able to reason when comparing numbers as they can explain that, a number is less because it is closer to 0 while the other is greater because it is closer to 100. In our final lessons we created our very own hundreds charts and then used them to make necklaces with 100 Cheerios! In the following weeks we will begin to add single digit. Stay tuned!
Phonics
IB
In IB, we are beginning to wrap up the end of the IB unit. KA and KB students brainstormed and drew a picture of goods they can find in the supermarket and of the services they may want to provide in the future. This week, one student in each class was selected to be responsible for opening the class shop, closing the shop, and selling the items in it. We will continue to have students take on cashier responsibilities until the end of the unit on a rotating basis. Stay tuned for all that is happening in the unit!
Updates/Reminders
KA Community Unit
We are excited to invite our families into the classroom to share about their community/culture/identity with our students. The times presented below are the days that we are inviting you to come and share. The goal of the share is for students to learn about the diversity in our classroom community. The time slot is 30 minutes long, but you're only expected to "share" for about 10-15 minutes.
Narrative Survey: Help us get better!
Dear BPCS Families, we are trying to make our narrative reports a more efficient and parent supportive document. Please complete the survey attached here to help guide us in our revamp. We would need your feedback by 2/8 in order to incorporate it into our planning. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Here is the link to the survey.
