Mrs. Kelley's 1st Grade Class Newsletter
I am really excited about our Apples/Johnny Appleseed unit that we begin this week! This is one of my favorite times of the year! However, I wish the weather outside felt a little bit more like fall. Oh well....
Thanks for sending in your circled item for our Applesauce Day this Wednesday, Sept. 21st. The kids always love this fun apple filled day!
Thanks to everyone that sent in headphones or earbuds to school! These will stay at school and be used all year for the classroom laptops, iPads, and listening stations. We are starting our technology stations this week so please send them on Monday. Thank you!
The kids did GREAT on their first "practice" spelling test! This week the children will again bring home spelling words for the week and the test on Friday will actually count for a grade. Kids can choose any activity from the Word Study list (or any idea you have at home) to practice their words for homework.
Last week in the Tuesday Folder, I sent home a letter about how to download Istation at home. This is our online web-based digital reading resource and it is phenomenal! Kids work on individualized reading lessons geared to their needs. Parents are also able to go into the program and see their child's progress. The kids are all familiar with the login process as we use it quite a bit at school. The letter gives you instructions and the login information to get this started at home. In the coming weeks, Istation time will be added to the homework sheet for kids to work at home but you can get started now if you like! Just follow the instructions on the sheet and your child will be ready to go.
Here is the link https://www.smore.com/bvb5w to the 1st Grade Team Newsletter so you can see what curriculum all first graders will cover this week.
Reminder- If your child would like to bring a treat to school to celebrate their birthday, they may bring store bought donuts, cookies or goody bags. Please no cupcakes or cakes. Also, as a courtesy, please include a napkin for each child. Thanks!
