A final message...
Dear Plank South Families,
I hope you all had a great weekend and a wonderful start to summer break! We had an eventful final week of school with Field Day, classroom celebrations, Moving Up Day for 5th graders, and our end of year assembly Friday afternoon to wrap up the school year. The assembly certainly reflected how many of us feel at the end of the school year; sad, reflective, and most of all, joyful (video of our This is the Greatest School bit below!).
As I hope you know at this point, this past week I wrapped up my time as Plank South’s principal and later this summer I will be taking over as the Deputy Head of School for Learning at The American School in Japan (in Tokyo). Jen Sullivan has taken over as Principal as of today (July 1st) and Jill Doyle, former 4th grade teacher, has taken over as Assistant Principal. Though I am certainly sad to leave, I couldn’t feel better about the leadership and what lies ahead for Plank South! The reality, though, is that the great strength of Plank South is that it is filled with adults who embody Webster’s Vision of being Compassionately Connected, Joyfully Engaged, and Always Learning and I know that Jen and Jill will continue to make that vision a reality in Webster and at Plank South!
As I leave, I wanted to say a big thank you for a few things. First, I wanted to say thank you for your amazing kids. The kids brought joy to my life every day and there was nothing I enjoyed more as principal than getting to spend time and connect with your kids.
Second, thank you for the trust you placed in myself and Jen. There is no way to make everybody happy all the time, but even when we made decisions that you or other parents might not have loved, you were supportive and trusted that we had good reasons for those decisions. This trust and support of both teachers and administrators is a big part of the positive culture we’ve been able to create together at Plank South.
Lastly, I wanted to say thank you for the personal support this past year. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support, excitement, and congratulations from all of you as my family begins this new adventure. One of the things I’m most excited about is that even though we are moving far away we will still be home over the holidays and in the summers so I know I’ll still get to see so many of you and your kids around town (and let’s be honest, in Wegmans).
Have a wonderful summer and an amazing 2019-20 school year!
Warm regards,
Scott
