Welcome to Kindergarten!
2019-2020 School Year - Our Lady of Good Counsel School
Hello from Mrs. McPhillips
Dear Kindergarten Friend,
Welcome to Kindergarten!
We are getting our classroom ready and can't wait until you see it! We are going to have so much fun discovering and learning. We need your help getting ready for our school year. On Tuesday, August 13th or Wednesday, August 14th, you and a parent are asked to come to school to show us how much you know! This way we can start learning and discovering as soon as school starts.
We want to start our year by showing you and your parents our classroom. You and your parents are invited to visit us on Tuesday, August 27th. Please stop by between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM or between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Choose the time that is most convenient for your family.
There is something we would like you to work on before you come to school. Below this letter, your parents will find several name tags. There are three choices of name tags: a car, a bus and a backpack. Please choose the one which best fits your transportation situation. If you are CARES (Before/After Care) on a daily basis, you will use the backpack; a car for car pick-up and a bus for bus riders. Please ask Mom or Dad to help you print it out, complete the information and color it, cut it out and attach it to your backpack for the first week of school. (You may laminate or contact-paper it if you like.) Print the name that you would like us to call you on it.
There is one more thing for your parents to complete. Please fill out this Kindergarten Information Form: Kindergarten Information Form. This form will ask for some general information pertaining to you and your parents. Click the link above to be redirected to the online form.
Enjoy these Summer days and get ready for the first full day of school on Wednesday, August 28th.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Mrs. Nicole McPhillips

Kindergarten at OLGC School
Dear Parents,
We welcome you and your child to Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a very exciting time for all of us and we hope that your child’s experience at OLGC School will be rewarding in the spiritual, academic and social aspects of learning. We hope that the following information will help you as you prepare yourself and your child for school.
Schedule
Half Day - 8:15 AM to 11:45 AM
Full Day - 8:15 AM to 3:00 PM
Buses
School buses are provided by your local school district. Kindergarten students ride the same buses to school as students in Grades 1 through 8. Bus information is provided by your local school district. We do not receive information about bus pick up times or locations until the week before school starts. You will receive an email regarding bus information on August 24th.
Arrival
The Kindergarten children come directly into their classrooms upon arrival. They will be directed from their buses to the Gym doors along with the older students. Teachers will be waiting for them in the classroom. Car riders should begin to arrive around 8:00 AM and enter via the School Gym doors. As children arrive, they will be responsible for unpacking and then settling in with the arrival activities planned by the teacher for that day. By 8:15 AM, everyone should be ready for Prayers and Morning Meeting activities to begin.
Half Day Kindergarten Dismissal
Children will be escorted to the Gym doors at 11:45 AM for Half Day pick-up. All cars must be parked in the area by the Gym doors and parents must leave their vehicles to pick up their children. Children will be dismissed by their teachers directly to the person that is designated for pick-up either in writing or by phone message.
Full Day Kindergarten Dismissal
Children will follow the regular school schedule. Car riders are dismissed at 2:55 PM to the Gym doors. Parents coming for car pick-up must enter and leave the school lot by way of Knowles Avenue only. Cars must be parked in the area by the School Gym. Park your car and meet your child at the Gym doors. Traffic lanes are permitted to exit onto Knowles Avenue when students are safely inside their cars. Bus dismissal: Buses are called in the order that they arrive at our school. As the speaker announces each bus by school district and bus number, the children wait at the Kindergarten classroom door to meet the bus line. Children attending our CARES Program after school will wait in the classroom until they are called.
Dress Code
Children will wear the school gym uniform and sneakers.
Flynn & O'Hara is the ONLY place where you can purchase all your uniform needs. Please visit their website, found HERE, to purchase. For more information on OLGC Uniforms, please visit our school website under the "Uniform" section found HERE.
School Supplies
We ask that you purchase a full-size school bag for your child and a sturdy pocket folder to be used for classroom communication. An oversized t-shirt will be needed for art class to be used as a cover-up. A $10.00 art fee is also needed for art class. Pencils, crayons, glue, scissors and paints are provided for your child. You will occasionally be asked to donate classroom supplies such as napkins, paper towels or tissues. Scholastic News is a weekly publication that we will use that has both a digital and paper version. The cost for this subscription will be $7.00. You can find our complete Kindergarten Supply List above or on our school website.
Snack
We will have a snack time every morning. Please provide a simple snack and small bottle of water for your child. Please label it so we will know it is for snack. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies or is not allowed to eat certain foods.
Lunch
Please pack a nutritional lunch for your child. Food from home will not be heated. Use a thermal container if you are sending hot food. A reusable lunch bag or box should be purchased. A washcloth (to be used as a placemat) and a napkin should be packed daily along with any needed utensils. Food that is not eaten will be sent home so that you can adjust the amount or kind of food you send. Your child will also have an opportunity to participate in the school lunch program. Please visit our school website for more information on the lunch program and when that begins.

Orientation
On Tuesday, August 27th, you and your child may visit school from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM or from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This visit is recommended to alleviate first day fears when your child will be expected to come to the classroom without you. The children will have an opportunity to explore the classroom, listen to a story and get acquainted with the teachers and other students.
*The first full day of school for Kindergarten is Wednesday, August 28th.*
Hopefully we have answered many of your questions. We want everyone to feel comfortable about entering school. It should be a very happy and joy-filled time in your child’s life. Please make us aware of any special needs your child might have – be they physical, emotional or social. It is most important that each child experience a sense of security as they leave you to spend time with us.
May God bless you and your family and may your remaining summer days be filled with rest and relaxation. We look forward to meeting with you and your child in August and working with you in your child’s education throughout the coming school year.
