Dear Willink Families,
Happy Snow Day!!!! Hope you are all staying warm and safe!
Happy New Year to all of our Willink families! I hope you had a warm and restful holiday break and had time to rest and relax around all the festivities. The students have been sharing stories about what they did over break and how much fun they had. We lit a fire in our wood stove on December 23rd and it hasn't really been out since! Looking at the forecast, it will certainly continue to burn this weekend.
Next week is an exciting week for 8th grade students. Our annual Titan Day is on Monday. Teachers from Thomas will be sharing with 8th grade students the wide variety of classes they can take in high school as well as the various strands they can focus on. Students will rotate through multiple presentations, hearing specific details about required as well as elective classes. Additionally, Titan Night will be held on Tuesday, January 9th at Thomas High School. This is another great opportunity for students and their families to begin learning about the myriad opportunities awaiting them next fall. Finally, also on January 9th, during periods 1 and 2, 8th grade students will take part in our annual Career Day. Students will hear from various members of the community about their respective careers as well as how they got to where they are today.
We also have a combined Willink/Thomas concert on Wednesday night, January 10th. It is always great to see the growth of our Willink alumni. It also is a wonderful opportunity for our musicians to see what choral opportunities are available in high school.
January's CARE-acter trait of the month is diligence, which some students start struggling with at this time of year. Their constant and persistent effort may start to wane as the winter drags on. However, your children are fortunate to have you as a role model! Please talk with them about how you are diligent in all tasks, even on days that you might not feel like it. I am going to be talking about diligence on Titan TV as well. Our staff will be also be mentioning it too. With all of us working together, we can help all of our Titans be diligent.
Days like today are great opportunities to sit with your child and review their grades and talk about being diligent in their studies! If you have any questions about a specific grade, have your child, with your assistance, email the teacher directly. This technique helps your child learn how to self-advocate. Your child's counselor is also available to help as well. Additionally, next Friday, January 12th, we will be running our next eligibility report. This report determines if your child is able to participate in extracurricular activities and sports. By checking the portal now, you can help your child ensure that he/she is academically eligible to participate in those activities.
I hope you all have a safe and warm weekend.
Jim
