Dear Parents and members of our school community
Mary MacKillop Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for the blessed life of Mary
MacKillop.
May we face our struggles with the
same tenacity and courage as Mary,
never giving up in the face of adversity
and never showing animosity towards
those challenging us. May we continue
to persevere even when our difficulties
seem insurmountable.
May we help those in need and exhibit
compassion to them. May we remain
loyal to our mission and support those
working with us. At all times we need to
keep faith in God.
Amen

A picture is worth a 1000 words so this week enjoy the photos of the Book Week parade along with some other class activities.
The dress up day was a great success, again because of so many students and teachers were involved. We appreciate the effort required at home to have children sorted for this event, especially mid week. It was so much fun!
I love seeing the students at work throughout the day. These other photos show building a tall tower, creating a prayer mandala, using natural materials to make creature wonder questions and play-dough fun. I always feel so privileged to watch so much learning occurring every day.
The Five-Finger Reading Check
When your child starts to read for himself, it's important that the books he tackles aren't too difficult for him to handle successfully. Teachers have a simple way to match kids with the reading difficulty of a book: the five-finger check.
Ask your child to read a page from a book. Every time he stumbles or skips a word, curl up one of your fingers. If all five fingers are curled up by the end of the page, the book is too tough. Read it to him this time, and put off his own reading of it for later on. Of course you can still enjoy reading to your child at any age.

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum - Parent Tips
Tip #19 – Don’t use police as a threat to control your child’s behaviour. Teach them that the job of the police is to keep them safe.
Tip #20 – The concept of strangers is hard for children to grasp. A stranger is simply someone they don’t know. Explain to your child that you can’t tell if someone is a safe or unsafe person, just by looking at them. Sometimes it is ok to ask a stranger for help.
