Romeo and Juliet Act 2 Summaries
Act 2 Scene 1- Romeo Ditches the Gang
After the party ends, Romeo can't stop thinking about Juliet, so he ditches Mercutio and Benvolio and heads back to the Capulet house. Mercutio and Benvolio try to find Romeo after the party. They assume that Romeo is going to find Rosaline. Afterwards, they crack a lot of dirty jokes at Romeo's expense. Mercutio is offended that Romeo left them.
Act 2 Scene 2- Hearing the Love
The scene starts with Romeo watching Juliet, who is standing on a balcony. As he observes her, he compares her to the sun. Romeo listens to Juliet confess her love to him. After he hears her confession, he reveals himself to her and confesses his love. The two promise to marry one another.
Act 2 Scene 3- Romeo Convinces the Marriage
Romeo and Father talk in the morning. He tells him about the love he has for his enemy. Father says he’ll help with the marriage; turn hatred into love.
Act 2 Scene 4- Interrogation
Mercutio talks about how he hates weird accents and strange manners... They make dirty jokes about Romeo and what he “did”. They speak about where Romeo is, and where is was the night before. The nurse arrives with Peter looking for Romeo .
Act 2 Scene 5- Being Impacient
Nurse toys with Juliet, says she’s out of breath, she’s tired... has headaches. The nurse tells Juliet that she must go to get the ladder that Romeo will use later to climb up to Juliet’s chamber.
Act 2 Scene 6- Tying the Knot
Friar Laurence prepares the marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Juliet arrives and the two confess their love for each other.
