Weekly Update

Elkton Middle School

October 13, 2019

What Happened This Week?

On Monday, we kicked off our school-wide fundraiser! Students are selling chocolate bars for $1. Thank you to all of the students and parents who have already started selling. Proceeds will benefit our PBIS initiative and allow us to increase technology in our classrooms. All fundraiser money is due on October 21.

Seventh grade students participated in the Stream Study of the Big Elk Creek on Monday and Tuesday. Students collected several data samples and used scientific analysis to determine a rating of "fair" for the Big Elk Creek.

EMS boys and girls soccer played Perryville Middle School on Monday and Rising Sun Middle School on Friday. Our athletes continue to improve their skills and teamwork. We're proud of the sportsmanship they display at each game. Our next game is on Monday, October 14 at Cherry Hill Middle School beginning at 3:30.
Interim reports were issued to students on Tuesday. Please take a moment to review interim reports with your children. If you have concerns about grades, talk to your child about their grade. Remind them of the re-do opportunity for all assignments, and help them make a plan to improve their grades. If you have additional concerns, please reach out to the school counselors or individual teachers with questions or to request a conference. Students do better when we all work together!

On Friday afternoon, EMS participated in a campus-wide school safety drill simulating an active threat in the building. Members of the Cecil County Sheriff's Office, Elkton Police and other first responders spent the afternoon with our staff and students practicing decision-making in the event of an active threat to our school. Our students and staff were attentive, took the drill very seriously, and were complemented by law enforcement for their positive response. As always, if you have questions about this or any school safety drill, please contact the Main Office at 410-996-5010.

National Junior Honor Society students organized a fundraiser on Friday. Staff were invited to wear pink and denim for a $2 donation to go towards breast cancer research. Many of our students joined in by wearing pink as well!
