NHS Staff Notes
June 5, 2019
Farewell to our Friends, Colleagues and Family
- Maria Viscogliosi- Special Education Assistant- 16 years at NHS, 24 years in Education. Maria is looking forward to retiring and sleeping in. She has plans to work in her garden. It has been a joy working with all of the students all of these years, and she takes with her precious memories with every one of them.
- Patti Kjonaas- Ceramics Teacher- Patti is retiring after 14 years at NHS, 30 years in Education. She is looking forward to working in her own pottery studio, and has applied to graduate programs at UC Berkeley, Mills College and SF State to earn her Master's degree in sculpture.
- Sandy Harris- Special Education Teacher, Magnet Program Coordinator, Dept Chair- 6 years at NHS, 20 years in education. Sandy has made a list of places she would like to visit upon her retirement, which include: Spring training, Sedona, Big Sur, and Stonehenge. She also can't wait to help with her new baby grandson down in Marina Del Rey. She would like to say that she has really enjoyed NHS- it is an amazingly welcoming community. She will miss everyone.
- Robin Spring- English Teacher- 17 years at NHS and in education. Robin is excited to read books that are not on a list or part of prepping for school! She wrote an excellent farewell email, but one thing she wanted to add was that from first to last, NHS students are wonderful.
Additionally, we are heartbroken to lose the following staff, and have no doubt that they will make a difference and continue to be amazing at their new posts:
- Felipe Fajardo- Spanish Teacher- Felipe has accepted a full time position with Castro Valley High School
- Jill Casillas- Spanish Teacher- Jill has accepted a transfer position to College Park High School
- Janette Sikorski- English Teacher- Janette has accepted a full time position teaching social studies and english at Las Lomas High School
- Danielle Crider- English Teacher- Danielle is currently interviewing at several sites.
- Karla Branch- Math Teacher- Karla has accepted a transfer to the Gateway independent study program
- Julia Flanagan Schmidt- Julia will be teaching French at DVC part time, and is still waiting to hear back from the district about possible placement.
- Chase Templeton- Biology Teacher- Chase has interviewed at several out of district sites, and should be hearing soon.
And finally, we are heartbroken to announce that the Dean of Students position has also been cut. Tucker Farrar has done an outstanding job in this position, and his impact in the short time was tangible. We wish Tucker the best of luck in his new position as Vice Principal at California High School in San Ramon.
