Musical: Songs For a New World

Music and Lyrics by: Jason Robert Brown

Big picture
"It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make. Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue, to meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams... and a soulless marriage. With a driving, exquisitely crafted score that runs the gamut of today's popular music, Songs for a New World is a great way to bring the next generation into the theatre."

On Friday, April 30th, Juniors will be participating in the state-sponsored exam. All testing will be administered in-person and students in both hybrid and distance learning are to attend. An email will be sent out with testing location and procedures.

Only students participating in testing will attend school on these days. All other students will have an asynchronous day. Teachers will communicate activities and expectations directly to students.

The last day of school for grades 9 - 11 is currently scheduled for May 26, 2021. As we have done the last two semesters, we will not have our typical semester final exam schedule. Instead, we will utilize May 27th and May 28th for students needing to provide additional evidence. More information coming soon.

Barrington 220 is planning for full in-person learning for all students at the start of the 2021-22 school year. However, the district understands that given the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, there are families who may wish to participate in a fully virtual program next school year.

The district sent out a questionnaire asking those families who wish to participate in a virtual program to commit for the entire 2021-22 school year. The questionnaire can be found in the Infinite Campus parent portal. Select documents on the left navigation bar, questionnaire is in the commitment section.

Big picture
It is important to note, that a student who chooses to participate in the virtual program can not participate in another district program such as Chinese Immersion, Spanish Dual Language or the Extended Self-Contained Program. It is also important to note that if not enough families sign up to participate in a virtual program next school year, it is possible the district may not be able to offer it. In addition, if the district is able to implement the program for the 2021-22 school year, there is no guarantee the district will continue offering the program beyond next school year.
