26th SculptFest At Main Street in Round Rock
April 27 – 29, 2018, Round Rock, Texas
Join us in celebrating the Texas Society of Sculptor’s 26th SculptFest! This major invitational show will include approximately 60 sculptors hailing from across Texas and throughout the U.S. The show will feature a huge selection of miniature to monumental size sculptures as well as sculpture demonstrations including stone carving, 3D printing of sculptures, and bronze pouring.
The Art and Culture Director for the City of Round Rock will provide professional management, city resources and advertising for SculptFest.
Allan Houser Exhibition of many large sculptures will open on April 27th on the spacious Centennial Plaza, Round Rock (within walking distance the location of SculptFest). Allan Houser, an American Master (Chiricahua Apache, 1914 – 1994), is possibly the most significant Native American sculptor on the 20th Century.

On Tuesday, May 1, Author Michael Fry will present to 2nd-5th grade about his book How to be a Supervillain: Born to be Good!
Which comes out the day he’s here at Deep Wood!
Michael Fry is a cartoonist who makes the comic strip, Over the Hedge, in newspapers. His comic was even turned into a movie! Did anyone see it? He’s also the author of several chapter books that mix comic cartoons throughout the pages.
Students can buy autographed copies of the books in this series when he’s here! Stop by the library or library bulletin board if you’d
like to learn more about the books.
Bring your order forms (going home today) with money to the library by May 1 if you want the book signed with YOUR STUDENT'S name! Autographed books will be available a few days after the visit too, but they won’t be personalized if you bring your order form in late.
The Deep Wood STREAM School Day Event is coming up on Friday, May 4th. STREAM is an acronym for the fields of study in the categories of science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Students will spend the school day rotating through STREAM stations. Students will engage in a positive and fun learning experience with their classmates.
The theme for STREAM Day is "May the Fourth Be With You" and we encourage students to dress up as their favorite Star Wars character.
Continue the learning with your family on Friday night at RRISD’s STEMfest! Click on the link for further details. https://roundrockisd.org/2018/04/04/stemfest-brings-fun-and-wonder-to-downtown-round-rock-may-4/
Parent Input Form for 2018-19
Deep Wood Families,
As we begin to make plans for the 2018-2019 school year, you are invited to provide input as to how we can best meet your child’s needs at Deep Wood Elementary. Your input is valuable as class placement decisions are made. Fifth-grade parents DO NOT have to complete this form and many parents have already completed it! This form is due by May 1, 2018. The information you provide, along with input from school staff members, will assist us in placing your child appropriately. Many variables contribute to the successful placement of children into classes; therefore, requests for specific teachers will not be honored. As always, thank you for supporting Deep Wood. Click here to access the form.
Come find out about our Family Cub Scout Pack at Join Scouting Night on Thursday, May 3 at 6:30 in the Cafeteria. Questions? Please contact Nicki Salathe at firstname.lastname@example.org
Talent Show Information
It is time to get ready for our annual Deep Wood Talent Show and we are doing things a little different this year. The Talent Show will take place on Wednesday, May 23rd at 8:00 a.m. In an effort to give more students an opportunity to perform in front of an audience, we are going to hold a "Talent Share Day" on Tuesday, May 22nd. You can find all of the information, including the schedule for Talent Share Day, guidelines for the student acts, and the form for students to sign up to participate on Mrs. Choate’s Talent Show page of her website by clicking here: Deep Wood Talent Show Information
If you have any questions or need help filling out the Talent Share Day Form, please e-mail Mrs. Choate at email@example.com or call her at 512-464-4421 or send her a note in your child’s folder. Please fill out the form by Sunday, May 20th. We can’t wait to see the creativity of our Dinos, and everyone is invited to both the Talent Share Day on May 22nd and the Talent Show on May 23rd.
