What I *actually* do for a living.
Build your dream or spend your life building someone else's
Working Remote
I've worked in coffee shops, on beaches, from hotels overlooking germanic castles, in planes, trains, and automobiles, and from my favorite spot: my COUCH (I am decisively *NOT* a desk person). I'm not sharing this with you to boast, I'm telling you because it's possible.
If you've ever dreamed of working remote, you're in the right place.
When it comes to working remote -- you have options. I like options. It makes me feel free. I hope you feel free too! Dip your toes into the pool of whichever one makes sense for you and aligns with your lifestyle (today and 5, 10, 20 years into the future -- think, can I do this for the long-haul? Will this job serve me in the ever-changing landscape of my life?).
I'm not going to go into jobs that require specific skill-sets (like teaching abroad, etc.), nor am I going to discuss jobs in which you trade your hours for dollars. If you've found EXACTLY what you're looking for career-wise that's skill-specific and your base pay is set -- I'm SO happy for you! Pursue that passion! But something tells me, if you're reading this...you're at the very least curious.
What if there's more...

Social Marketing
What is Social Marketing? Simple: you are paid based off of the recommendations you make to people about products and/or services that you love. Instead of a giant company getting the full kickback, you get it because your network trusts your opinion! Your network will benefit and so will you. It's a win/win! There are plenty of Social Marketing companies out there. Find the one that aligns with your values and definitely choose a company whose products you love and would use daily. If not, what's the point? Authenticity is key and can only come from personal experience.
Even if you are swamped with a full-time job, even if Social Marketing isn't your life's plan or passion -- you can still build a thriving business. Most people don't grow up thinking they want to become a professional in Social Marketing, but I encourage you to shift your mindset: this is not the destination, it's the vehicle that may GET YOU to your intended destination. What is that for you? Perhaps more time with family? More opportunity to travel? A life where you can give and give generously without having to count the cost? You don't have to quit your job and start a business, you can build both alongside each other. Maybe you LOVE building your business and find it lucrative enough to quit your job, or maybe you decide you love and want to continue to build both! The choice is yours.

Tips for working remote with Social Marketing
For me, it took a while. I wasn't *looking* to start a business, I was barely even looking to start a job. I was a senior in college, getting ready to graduate and trying to turn that expensive piece of paper (B.S. in Biopsychology and B.A. in Italian Studies) into a career. I was actually preparing to go to medical school for Naturopathy when Arbonne came knocking on my door. I remember distinctly reading Arbonne's ingredient policy (I spent my LIFE reading labels and ingredient lists because I had so many sensitivities and allergies...if you do too...let's talk! That's a story for another time) and being so impressed that I decided to start a business right away. I could tell the products were different as well as effective, so I immediately tried a bunch of them (like I said -- experience is key!) and jumped in!
In general -- you want to be sure you partner with a company that speaks to you and does business brilliantly. Also -- choose a company that's diverse (aka doesn't just sell *one* type of product) as well as respected. Arbonne is the darling of the Social Marketing Industry and we are the #1 Healthy Living Company from the Inside out (which is not just our tagline, it's actually been proven and verified by the Direct Selling Association). We are also a B Corporation, which means that we meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
2. Anyone can work from anywhere
Remote doesn't have to mean Italy (although for me it does - ha!). All that it means is you're pursuing a career that leads to freedom. What does freedom mean to you? I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on that -- and then ask yourself whether your current work/life situation leads to your best case scenario. If it doesn't, it might be time to pivot. This industry is challenging, it only works if you do. Astronomical success is not typical, RESULTS are not typical. But neither are you. YOU are not typical. You are extraordinary, you are curious -- I really believe that. And I believe it because you are here reading this, searching my little corner of the internet for an answer. I am honored that you think there's a chance you might find it here. Bravo!
Social Marketing is smart because it pairs with every lifestyle and requires no previous experience. In this economy, it's pretty rare to find someone who *doesn't* feel the need to diversify or expand their income. I'm sure you've heard it all over town, but it's true -- all you need is wifi and a dream (and a diligent work ethic).
3. Have a solid system
This is the kicker for the adventurer in me. I always want to be exploring! So balancing actually getting efficient work done while on the move is key. Systems make that possible. Arbonne has been around for 40+ years, so I'm very blessed to be a part of a company that has worked a lot of the kinks out. I chat with people while traveling, sometimes over text/phone, sometimes on video chat and I share about the business opportunity and/or the products that I have to offer. People then decide to either join me in business or buy from me as a consumer (and they get me as their personal shopper!) -- all of this happens directly through my personalized Arbonne website (which is included when you sign up). I don't have to deal with carrying inventory, shipping out orders, nothing! Arbonne takes care of it all. The internet is a beautiful thing and can take care of so much -- and my amazing company has really streamlined it through e-commerce. BLESS.
I will say: BE SURE to choose a company whose systems are in place -- both on a company-wide level and also on the team/personal level. Join people who know what they are doing and know where they are going. Ask them about their process for getting started! You and your success are largely influenced by the 5 closest people you surround yourself with. If they know their trajectory, they can more readily help guide you on yours.
4. Don't limit yourself
I've been building my Social Marketing business for over six years now and I see people stop themselves short over and over again. Why? Fear. Limiting beliefs. An unwillingness to step outside of their comfort zone. They know what they want but are too afraid to make the changes it takes to go out at get it.
What will people think of me? I don't have time. I don't have money. I don't want to be *that* person. I want to be taken seriously.
What they're really saying is, "I'm not sure it's worth breaking the status quo in order to achieve the life I've always dreamed of." I cannot stress this enough -- whatever you do -- avoid staying exactly where you are unless where you are is exactly where you want to be.
Time is not a renewable resource. Every moment you wait is another moment you can't get back. There are many paths to freedom. Social Marketing is the one I've chosen and I hope this little article has empowered you to choose freedom too! Find your path, build yourself, let go of limiting beliefs -- and most importantly, link arms with people who are walking in the same direction as you. It truly is better together.
