Principal's Message
Good afternoon all,
I am sure that like me, all of you are looking forward to more sunshine and daylight in the weeks to come! Spring is approaching!
Tomorrow is the day that MASKS BECOME OPITIONAL! Wherever you stand on this we must all respect one another's choice to wear or NOT wear a mask and support our students and their families in what they choose to do.
I want to invite you to communicate directly with classroom teachers via remind/email to inform classroom teachers if your child will be wearing a mask or not. This information will be helpful to us in supporting your wishes at school. If your child is not wearing a mask and you want them to wear a mask at school, teachers and administrators will be able to provide reminders and consult with you directly to see how we can better support them at school.
However, teachers cannot be tasked with enforcing that your child wears a mask at school. It is no longer a mandate in Framingham Public Schools. If students are NOT wearing masks at school and you as the parents/guardians have informed us that they should be wearing masks, we will:
- remind students privately of what their parents/guardians are expecting them to do
- inform parents/guardians that their child is not wearing a mask in school
- ask for parents/guardians to review expectations at home
- consult with parents/guardians and grade level administrators
ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS VISITING THE NURSE'S OFFICE MUST WEAR A MASK. THE NURSE'S OFFICE WILL BE THE ONLY PLACE WHERE MASKS WILL BE MANDATED.
MASKS WILL ALSO BE OPTIONAL ON BUSES.
Please contact your grade level admin with any further questions.
At Barbieri, we will continue to sanitize frequently, wash our hands frequently, physically distance whenever possible, ensure all air purifiers are on in all offices/classrooms, eat lunch/breakfast at two different locations to ensure distance, have adult masks/children's masks available and participate in weekly testing.
Disfruten el dia soleado,
Maria
Hunter the Hawk Visited Sra. Ostrosky's class after they earned all of their feathers!!!
Classrooms receive a visit from Hunter the Hawk when classes have earned 10 feathers in the bistro/gym lunch area for following the expected behaviors during lunch. This is a great way to remind our students of respect, kindness, and modeling the behaviors we expect to see during lunch time (throwing their trash in the bins, cleaning up after themselves, remaining in their seat, raising their hand, talking to friends and having a good time)!
Social Emotional Learning
→ To exemplify confidence this month at Barbieri, we will be having a Spring Reading Madness. What does this mean? We are going to have a schoolwide challenge to reach reading goals. The Spring Reading Madness will help to increase independent reading time and build and comprehension skills. We have a school-wide reading goal of 100,000 minutes over the next 6 weeks. Every time a class is able to read for 15 minutes independently, you will fill out a basketball. These basketballs will then get posted on a hallway bulletin board to see how much each of our classes are reading! The classroom with the most minutes read by April 14th will get a special visit and prizes from Hunter! Look for more information coming this week!

LEGO CLUB
The LEGO Engineering Club is open to Barbieri students in grade 2.
We will meet on Friday mornings from 8:15 – 8:50 AM. We start after February vacation and end in May.
The focus of this club will be researching, designing, and building with LEGOs. This is not just a time to free-play with LEGOs (though we definitely will have fun!) We will explore engineering concepts with LEGOs.
Students will explore concepts together, so they do not need to know how to build with LEGOs already.
Parents – we need your help! Please consider volunteering as a team coach. Contact me for more information.
Space is limited. There will be a lottery in the event that we have more interest than available slots. Priority will be given to students of volunteers.
Students in LEGO Club must participate in pool testing.

RECESS
Teachers are encouraged to take their students out every day, unless weather conditions make it unsafe. Our Hawks need fresh air, sunshine and physical activity! Students participating in recess will NEED TO WEAR A COAT. Please send your child to school with A COAT and any other necessary accessories to safely enjoy outdoor play!
Please support us at home by reviewing expectations for recess in the snow at home with all of our little hawks:
- NO SNOWBALLS, we want to ensure everyone's safety. Especially with the snow being harder due to the cold temperatures. Sometimes it's ice!
- NO KICKING SNOW on others
- NO PUSHING others into snow. We never know what is beneath the snow and we want to ensure safety. We also want to respect others clothing (remaining dry/getting wet)
- MAKE SNOW ANGELS
- BUILD A SNOW FIGURE
- MAKE LARGE ROUND BALLS
- MAKE FOOTPRINTS
- DIG a hole
- HAVE FUN!!!
Thank you for your support with this! Students who play in the snow are required to wear snow pants and snow boots. We want to avoid students spending the rest of the day in wet cold clothes. Please feel free to send in snow pants and boots that students can store in their cubbies and lockers. Please LABEL ALL CLOTHING!
If you need support in acquiring snow pants or snow boots please contact our main office (508) 626-9187 and ask to speak to Ms. Tracy Gabriel or Ms. Kelly Quinn, Barbieri Bilingual Social Workers. We are happy to help our families!
