Rocket Review

Week of August 19, 2019

Welcome to August!

The Morgan office staff is back to work and can be found in the music room as their temporary location. We returned last week and are available to help you Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. You can reach us by phone: 586-797-5800; fax: 586-797-5801; email:; or in person.

Welcome to our new Morgan families! We continue to enroll new Rockets each day and are excited to meet our new students and families very soon! For our families new to Morgan, the Rocket Review is sent out each Friday during the school year with updates, news, highlights of the school week and more. It will be sent to you electronically through email and posted on the Morgan Facebook page. If you haven't already visited the Morgan Facebook page, please do so and "like" our page so you will be notified when updates are posted.

Construction continues in the main office, lobby and front entrance. Our kitchen renovation is complete and looks great! We are excited to see the final result in the lobby and main office with secure entryway once construction is completed. We are staying out of the way in the back of the building so the contractors can do their work while we do ours.

If you do come to Morgan to visit the main office, look for signs posted that will direct you to the outside door of the Music room, where you can enter the building safely away from the construction projects. You can also park on the play pay outside of the music room.

I know many of you are wondering about our traditional sneak peak known as Rocket Day. Based on the amount of projects remaining in our lobby and main office areas, I cannot provide you with a date for Rocket Day at this time. I will make a decision at the end of this week, with input from construction managers and board office personnel, as to whether we will be able to safely access Morgan to host a Rocket Day this year. Thank you for your patience as Morgan benefits from the bond dollars you supported to provide a more safe and secure learning environment for our students.

There are further updates and information throughout this newsletter. As always, if you have a question, please give us a call at 586-797-5800.

Enjoy this beautiful August weather and soak up these last few weeks with your child. You only have 18 summers to spend with your children before they become adults. Make every summer count and fill it with special memories of time together.

See you soon!

Mrs. Lasky

Open House

Tuesday, September, 17 @ 7 PM

Reserve the evening of Tuesday, September 17, 2019, for our annual UCS Open House and Morgan Curriculum Night. We will begin promptly at 7 PM in the gymnasium, then move to two classroom presentation sessions that will last twenty minutes each.

Open House/Curriculum Night is intended for parents/adults as you receive updates and information from our UCS representatives, learn more about Morgan Elementary, and visit classrooms to learn about grade level curriculum and classroom information.

School Supplies

What School Supplies do I Need?

Every year the teachers provide Morgan Elementary students with a recommended supply list for each grade level.

Although the district provides funds that allows our school to buy the supplies your child may need to be successful, if you would like your child to have their own personal supplies, please feel free to purchase from the list below. Some grade levels have also asked for resources such as Kleenex that could be used to supply the whole class. Please do not feel obligated to purchase any of the items listed for your child’s grade. Thank you.

Breakfast is Served!

Breakfast service at Morgan Elementary will begin on Tuesday, September 3. Students purchasing breakfast will be allowed to enter Morgan at 8:05 AM, reporting the gymnasium to purchase and consume breakfast items. If a student enters the building for breakfast, they must remain in the gymnasium until the bell rings at 8:15 AM, then head to their classroom when dismissed by our breakfast monitor.

A healthy, nutritious breakfast is a critical ingredient to the success of our students. To help our students succeed, the school breakfast program is available in all of our schools. Healthy choices include cereal, whole-grain breakfast bars, yogurt, fruit and milk in the elementary buildings. Those choices, along with fresh-made hot breakfast sandwiches and other favorites are featured in the secondary buildings. Fresh-made fruit smoothies are also available in all schools on certain menu days. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria prior to the start of the school day. For menu information and serving times at your student’s school, please check the school’s website or on the Utica Community Schools Mobile App.

Looking for Lunch Monitors!

Morgan Elementary is looking for help in the lunchroom! Each year, we are allowed to hire 8 adults to help supervise students on the playground and in the lunchroom throughout our lunch hour. We would like to thank our parents who have already notified us that they will be returning to join our lunchtime this year and are looking for more support!

If you would be interested in helping in the lunchroom, please fill out a lunch monitor application with EduStaff. A link to the application can be found below. You will need to create an account, enter your information, complete some online training modules, and have a background check with finger prints. Then you can work as many lunch days as you would like and be paid for your help!

Several of our lunch monitors also complete additional training in EduStaff to serve as substitute paraprofessionals in our building. If you are interested in becoming a substitute paraprofessional, please use the EduStaff application process below.

If you have questions about becoming a lunch monitor or the online process, please contact Melissa Roth in our main office at 586-797-5800.
