Magness Creek Elementary
Week of October 9, 2023
We finally have some weather worthy of being called fall-like!
Our students are working on the word Self-Direct this month. Here is a link to Mrs. Carlisle's class using hand motions to go over the definition of self-direct: https://www.canva.com/design/DAFvF_z0OvE/BUKHTEkGOY9OivmnMRb6bQ/watch.
Parent-teacher conferences are coming up next Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-7:00. We will dismiss at 1:00 both of those days and end the week with no school on Friday, October 20. Classroom teachers will send home sign up sheets for this event. We will have our storybook pumpkin contest set up around the library those nights as well. Here is a link for further information on this super fun yearly event at Magness Creek: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11GFMv8LANd-_QNwbQO2PvL04iCfE5oVY/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=102899739645469319039&rtpof=true&sd=true. We can't wait to see ALL of our parents for our fall conferences!
DEVOted Readers Program
How to access Lexia at Home
Lexia is an online reading program that we use for all students here at Magness Creek in grades K-4. It has 21 levels. Students took a placement test at the beginning of the year and were placed on the level they should begin with. Every time a student passes a level, the office will give the student a prize and document the progress on a superstar wall by the office. Various classroom teachers have systems in their classrooms as well to further reward units and time spent on Lexia. We have seen Lexia grow students substantially in the area of reading. As you know, chromebooks stay here at school this year, but we wanted you to have the information for your child to be able to access Lexia at home on a personal device if they would want to devote more time to this program after hours:
*Go to https://lexiacore5.com.
*Use your child's teacher email to log in. Then use your child's Student ID for the username and password. Please call the office or ask your child's teacher for the Student ID number if you do not know it.
Cabot Saving Lives Event--October 28

Cabotians have the opportunity to have their skills checked off to become CPR & First Aid Certified and to also donate blood with Our Blood Institute. If you know of anyone wanting to become CPR & First Aid Certified or renew their certification, this is the perfect opportunity for them! An information sheet with all of the details for the event is attached below. Please share the information and help spread the word!
