6th grade End of Year Party

Dear FCI 6th Grade Parents,

The end of another year is almost here and before our children move on to Jr. High, we want to celebrate them and their achievements during their time at FCI. On Wednesday, May 25th, the FCI PTO will be hosting the 6th Grade End of Year Party, but we need your help to make it a success!

One of the fun activities planned for the party is an inflatable obstacle course. In order to participate, each child must have a signed waiver on file. The waiver/tshirt order form can be found on the FCI website using this link - http://goo.gl/yfls7G. A form will also be distributed this week to your child as school. PLEASE COMPLETE and SIGN WAIVER and return to school by April 19th. Your child will not be able to use the obstacle course without a waiver.

Your student will receive a t-shirt during homeroom the morning of the party. The theme for this year’s party is, “Our Future’s so Bright”. In order to help offset the cost of the t-shirts, we are asking each family to donate $5. Please be assured that regardless of your ability to donate, your 6th grader will receive a t-shirt.

We will, of course, be looking for volunteers the day of the party, so keep an eye out for a Volunteer Spot email to help with this event!

Thank you.

Your End of Year Party Co-Chairs ~ Heidi Braz & Rachel Askins

Please join Fall Creek Intermediate in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Series campaign. Your support will help fund the therapies and treatments that help save the lives of blood cancer patients today.

For over 65 years LLS has invested more than $1 billion to advance cancer therapies and save lives.

Last year alone, LLS invested nearly $79.8 million in cutting-edge research. And many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but are now used to treat patients with other forms of cancers as well. Nearly 40% of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA between 2000 and 2014 were first approved for blood cancer patients.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer! Please visit our Web site often to check our progress and invite friends who would also like to donate!

  • Support a specific student, search for the student’s name* on the left side of the screen to locate their fundraising page.
  • Make a general donation to our school, please click the Donate Now button
  • All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. Donations support LLS research, patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services

Counselor's Corner

Spring break is right around the corner, and that means we just have one quarter left in the 2015-2016 school year. Here are some things to share with your child that he or she can do to finish out the year strong.

Set Goals-goals are important, even at the end of the year! Setting both academic and personal goals will help keep you focused, organized, and motivated to do your best these last couple of months.

Don’t put off responsibilities
- procrastinating or not giving your best are just ways of putting off responsibilities. Putting off school-related tasks will leave you scrambling and stressed at the last minute. Do what you need to do and hopefully you will have some left over time to enjoy the nicer weather!

Remember what you’ve worked for
- in order to reach your goals it may help to remind yourself of all the hard work you’ve put in this year. Don’t let yourself give up when you have put forth great effort up to this point.

Adjust your attitude
- what is your attitude like right now? Are you feeling down? Feeling negative about your responsibilities? Simply adjusting your attitude to be more positive can make an incredible difference.

Focus on the finish line-visualize your finish line-and your goals-focus on that. The school year will be over before you know it-you can do it! Finish the year as strong as you started it.

6th Grade Creating Positive Relationships Class

The Creating Positive Relationships (CPR) Program will be taught to the 6th graders at our school the week of May 16, 2016. This program focuses on teaching our children a whole-person health curriculum on the advantages of postponing sexual involvement until marriage. Basic skills in good decision-making and goal setting are taught, in addition to the possible consequences of sexual activity.

There will be a live webinar for parents on March 29 from 8-9:20 pm. All you need to do is register at: http://www.cpr4teens.org/parents/webinar-info/

The Creating Positive Relationships organization knows parents are busy and hope this new format will allow you to join them in the comfort and convenience of your own home. They also trust that you will find them to be a resource as you work to develop a healthy relationship with your pre-teen. This webinar will equip you with ideas, skills, and direction for opening up communication with your child.

There are also pre-recorded webinars online if you are unable to make the live webinar. However, they will not show the video due to copyright laws. If parents are interested in viewing the video they can call the Creating Positive Relationships office at 317-846-0386 to schedule a viewing time.

State Park Passes @ the Library

With temperatures finally on the rise, thoughts are turning to the great outdoors and exploring all that Indiana has to offer. In honor of the state’s bicentennial, the Indiana State Library has now provided each library with a state park pass for loan to library cardholders.

When you are ready to hit the trail, simply stop by the Adult Services desk at either the Fishers or Noblesville Library and check for availability. Due to high demand, the passes will be available on a first come, first served basis, with no holds or renewals available. Passes can be checked out for up to 7 days.

Like other library materials, if passes are returned after the due date, late fees will apply. If passes are lost, a full replacement cost will be assessed. For further information, check out the library’s website at hepl.lib.in.us.

Immunization Requirements

Fifth Grade Parent/Guardian:

The Indiana State Department of Health requires additional immunizations for students in 6th grade. These requirements will apply to your current 5th grade student for the next school year. Even though your student is up to date for this school year, two additional vaccines are necessary for entry into 6th grade. Your child will be eligible for the immunizations when they are eleven years of age.

Completing these immunizations during the school year is your best option as physician’s offices and health departments are extremely busy during the summer months. The state required 6th grade immunizations are as follows:

· One meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine

· One Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) booster

The state requires the school to have documentation that every student entering 6th grade has received the state required vaccines prior to the start of school. After your child receives the required 6th grade vaccines, please send a copy of the updated immunization record to Fall Creek Intermediate.

Updated immunization records can be emailed, faxed, mailed, or hand delivered to Fall Creek Intermediate, Attention Jamie Weber/School Nurse. Please contact Jamie Weber/School Nurse at jweber@hse.k12.in.us with any questions or concerns.
