Welcome to Broomfield Heights!

We are about to take off for a great start to the 2018/19 school year! Our school is the greatest; our teachers and staff are working together to provide a truly exceptional school year for our kids. I continue to be blown away by the stellar community support and engagement and it has been fantastic getting to visit with our returning families while getting to know our new families as we enter the new school year!

Communication and school/home partnership is a key element of our school success. We are pleased to provide you with this first weekly “eblast” message which will continue through the year to provide you with regular information about what is happening at Broomfield Heights. We hope this will be a useful communication link as we partner with you.

We know you share our primary goal to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for every student. As such, please know:

  • We encourage all drivers to be sure to obey traffic laws and be safe while dropping off and picking up our kids. Please be sure to drop your students off and pick them up on the curb-side that abuts to the sidewalk on school property and/or in the drop off/pick up section in front of the school, by the flag pole. We are confident that students are safe when they are dropped off in designated areas as long as we all are patient and follow these expectations! Please see map below for more info!

  • We have staff in place to supervise students, while on school grounds, starting 15 minutes before school starts and until 15 minutes after the school day ends. Due to lack of supervision, we discourage students from being on campus outside of these times unless they have a prearranged and supervised purpose to be on campus.

  • Students may enter any door from 8:32 to 8:40. After school begins, doors will be locked and all students and visitors will need to enter the front door to check-in through the main office.

I am pleased to share the BHMS students performed very well on our state CMAS assessments in April. Please see this link for a CMAS summary with more details . Individual student score reports are available in Infinite Campus Parent Portal using these directions.

Finally, I thank you for your support of our students, our school and our teachers. We are a community of learners who follow our four core values of respect, responsibility, kindness and safety. We all work together and ask you to remember to talk to your kids, advocate for them and make a difference in their lives each and every day! I assure you, we will do the same!!

Students are expected to demonstrate Core Values and digital citizenship with cell phone use.

  • Students must keep their phones in their lockers or at home between the school hours of 8:40 AM and 3:40 PM. With every student having their own secure locker, we will require them to leave his or her phone within their locker or leave them at home. Parents can communicate with their child any time of the school day through the front office. (Every room in the school has landline phone access.)
    If students need to contact parents due to illness, they must always do so through the Health Clinic in the Main Office.

  • Cell phones may be taken if there is a distraction or disruption, at the discretion of staff members. If the phone is taken, it will be returned at the end of the day in Ms. Tice’s office. If it is taken more than once, the phone will only be released to parents or guardians.

2018-2019 Free/Reduced Lunch Applications

Students who were in a Boulder Valley School District last year ( 2017-18 ) and were on Free/Reduced lunch will have a 30 day grace period for the 2018-19 school year. A new application must be made and approved by no later than September 28, 2018 or students will be charged for lunches. Students from out of District must apply immediately in order to get approval for the 2018-19 school year.

All applications must be made online using the IC Parent Portal. If you have questions you may call the District Food Services office at 720-561-5042. You may also call Bob Lopez at BHMS at 720-561-8491.

The attendance office needs to be notified of ALL absences. If we don’t receive an attendance email or phone call, your student will be marked Unexcused for that day. If you need to pick up your student during the school day, we appreciate an early phone call so we can deliver a pass ahead of time. Please report all absences via email at or call 720-561-8402.

Monday, 8/20 - 6th/7th Flag Football - Information/First Practice 4 to 5 PM - Sports physical recommended but not required

Monday, 8/20 - 6th/7th/8th Cross Country - Information/First Practice 4 to 5 PM - Sports physical required

Tuesday, 8/21 - 6th/7th Girls Volleyball - Information/First Practice 4 PM to 5 PM - Sports physical recommended but not required

When registering for a sport, you will come across the payment options of Pay Now and Pay at School. If you will be paying via check, cash, or are fee exempt/free or reduced lunch, please pick Pay at School. (Please note that the Administrative Waiver applies only to those who receive free/reduced lunch and/or are exempt from school fees.)


School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, 9/11. Retakes will happen on Thursday, 10/18.


Students may bring a sack lunch or purchase a lunch in the cafeteria. If your student brings a sack lunch, it is the expectation that the lunch comes with the student at the beginning of the school day, and not be delivered in the middle of the day. If your student forgets their sack lunch at home and it gets brought in after school starts, please note that we will not be interrupting classes to deliver those. Your student will need to know to come to the office to pick it up. Again, it is the expectation that there are no lunch deliveries during the school day. Thank you!


While it's very early in the school year, we want to make sure everyone is aware of our cold weather policy. Our students will be outdoors until the bell rings every day, unless the weather drops below 20 degrees or it's significantly raining/snowing. Only in these instances will we open up the cafeteria and allow students to enter the building before the first bell.

Brain Bowl: Friday Morning from 7:45-8:30am in Room 204 beginning on 8/24

Battle of the Books: Tuesdays after school from 3:45-4:45 (we will begin once the book list is made available which should be in late September or early October)

Destination Imagination: This is a parent run activity, if your student is interested, please email me and I will put together an email list of interested families! You must form your own groups, I will help facilitate the process (

2019 Great Words, Great Works Book List

Each year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee publishes its School Spelling Bee Study List, a list of 450 words to help students prepare for a school-level spelling bee. These 450 words come from a list of books carefully selected by the Bee’s editorial team for their engaging and age-appropriate content, as well as their rich vocabulary. That list of books is called the Great Words, Great Works list.
